First of all, most likely it is using the mkda version. This doesn't mean that these characters are playable in MK:Dcptn. However, they may be playable in MK:Dcptn, only in "The Board Game". Just because their models are inputted in the board game as we have seen in the video, doesn't mean they can't be played with. So, by the looks of the video in the board game, when Quan Chi and Scorpion are right next to each other, and I believe that Scorpion has a status ranking of "Warlord", Scorpion most likely is the character that is being controleld by the user goes in battle against Quan Chi. And then from the board game mode, it quickly switches to a tournament mortal kombat arcade style fighting mode. That would be cool, playing MK and chess at the same time. Although it isn't chess, it is similar to it. So there's strategy in getting to your opponent on the field, and strategy in getting to your opponent in battle. Quite Nice I Must Say! Since the game is still in development, I can't say that some of these characters are only playable through "the board game" mode.
it wouldnt matter who is in the boardgame MKDA or: MK:D cause every person starts off with 5% life (95% handcap), as you saw in the trailer they only had a sprinkle of life bar cause then the board game would take forever, one spear and uppercut and was needed to kill chi as you saw life bar.
at least we know the life bar is short in this game thats a new hint bout the game.
and we seen puzzle combat in action too

Yes. thanks for the info. So, it's more of strategizing your plan on the field than on the battle. The Battle is more like a Quick Draw the first or first couple blows to your opponent will finish them off. So, you'd have to strategize which characters you would want to face off against your opponent's characters. Once your pieces meet, the battle begins, and a small demonstration of in game fighting of who pulls of the first couple hits decides the match. But it certainly can't be like that, for if it were to be just by first hits and such, the board game would sound ridiculous, so there must be other elements as to stronger characters, etc.
Or....if it's a case of an automatic victory... and you destroy an opponent's piece from the field, an in game clip appears showing how you killed off your opponent on how you killed em off on the field. Well, we don't really know much on how the system works, i think it'll be somewhat similar. There should be much more added on, i bet Midway has some tricks up their sleeves.
