Question.
I'm not sure if this question has already been asked, and if so close it. But if it's not then I need to ask you all something that's been sort of bugging me about this game.
This is not a rant:
Does one get the feeling that there is another reason why Boon wants to do this crossover game only to see what this new system is like? Like that this game is merely a testing game to see how everything works and that they want to see how it looks, feels, plays before they really go extreme with MK9 if they make it, and then put a lot of effort into future games?
Just that this game might only be a testing game and that they don't want to do a lot of things with Mortal Kombat yet until they see how the crossover is like on the new generation?
I think I asked the same question too many times, but do you get the feeling?

i personally think that its not a testing game, the more inmedyate purpose here is the profit they can make . However im sure they put a lot of effort to do this even if we cant see it sometimes, in order to bring mortal kombat to the new generation, and to..... keep being suported for us fans...(!?) , and its only THEN when they can say things went well. all this depends on a very subjective thing like people's tastes. and without effort they cant expect shit from us. my point is....its impposible for developers to take advantage in a 100 % of the system ( xbox 360 ). They are in an early stage of game developement , they dont " know " the console potencial yet to put it in my own words,,, ( garlador or anyone can explain this better than me im sure. ) so they will be forced to improve things in a future game aniways, despite this one is succesfull or not.

he's always anted to do a crossover game, this just presented an oppurtunity to do it. i think the engine and game mechanics the team had in mind before the crossover idea was finalized. this is all conjecture based on interviews with boon tho. in fact wasn't the deal to use the unreal 3 engi done long before the crossover announcement?

At least one of the post-announcement interviews gave me the feeling they were paring back what they'd been working on for MK8 in the interest of moving forward with this project.
That might suggest an experimental approach to the changes in this game, or it could just be the usual MK method of mislaying the best of intentions.
If they were ever going to try out new ideas, this is probably the game to do it with. It's already removed enough from the core franchise and has the potential to either go down in infamy, or liveon as one of those obscure diamonds in the rough.
I really do detest the popular notion of reducing the game's importance.
It would be an utter shame not to use the time to contribute something to the on-going saga of Mortal Kombat. If that's to be gameplay over story, at least it wouldn't be a willful submission to time wasting.

I think that the game has a potential to make a lot of money, and I think that may have a lot to do with it. Also creatively, sometimes it is fun to work with another established franchise's characters, which I am sure is part of the incentive for Boon&Co... it adds restrictions, but sometimes that kind of challenge can be fun. If you're a comic book fan, it must be a dream come true to be able to work with your favourite characters.

they probably are using it as a testbed of sorts, both for gameplay and graphics. Even if MKvsDC isnt spectacular, we might see incarnations of its new gameplay styles (Freefall Kombat and Close Quarters) later on in MK9

If this game was just a tester, they would have probably aspired to give a previous MK a modernized makeover (most likely MKII). Fans may have been disappointed... for a week. I'll even say that they would have complained much less about a modernized MKII then MKvsDC.
But I doubt this game is a tester, especially with the shadows of the DC higher-ups looking over their shoulders. I really think the only reason the graphics are below standard is because they had to reset the creative process 8 months into production. I don't think people appreciate how arduous it is to do that. I'm not justifying this creation, but I understand why we've observed the quality in front of us.
Although I don't think we'll be seeing another MKvsDC installment. The MK community has never quaked as it did on April 17th this year, and Boon not only noticed it, but predicted it. But in the words of T.S. Eliot, the franchise won't end "with a bang, but a whimper."
Ed can't afford to miss even one more step.

This is FAR from a "tester," you don't make deals with Warner Bros. (DC's parent company) and give them a halfassed release, may God have mercy on Ed Boon's soul if that happens.
