It looks like there is some ragdoll physics as well as random blood and guts chunks also.

When you watch the pictures and also the full animation of the new pit - it seems in the pictures (specifically the PSM ones on the right of the page) you can see Ermac falling into the pillars and it looks like his wrist and hand is bending and on the pillar (as if touching it, interacting) - then when the pit is in action it looks like there are random sized chunks being spewed out and when floating in the blood it looks something out of Half-Life 2.

That'd be a great feature for a game like this if that's true.

God I hope not. Ragdoll physics are just too unrealistic. They were ok in Max Payne 2 but too many games are adopting the Ragdoll physics new. I don't really think the ragdoll physics belong in mk.

Could you explain to me what ragdoll physics are? BTW I have Max Payne 2 so if you explain to me what they are I'll be sure to look for them.

Basically, just kill anyone in Max Payne and watch they way the body moves. That's Ragdoll Physics. Basically with Ragdoll Physics, the joints in the character model all become loose and contort into ungodly positions. In a game like Max Payne 2, it made the deaths very entertaining, but I don't think they'd fit into MK too well...maybe for certain fatalities but they're just too loose.

Please refrain from using the words "Mortal Kombat" and "physics" in the same sentence.

Thanks Shang. I noticed ragdoll physics in Max Payne 2 but didn't know it was named so appropriately. It's good to gain knowledge however insignificant it may be.
Heh.. I wouldn't think they base every animation with ragdolls.. such as being hit by an uppercut. Ragdolls aren't for just bodies and limbs.. it's the way 'things' in video games fall and move/interact with difference every time.

The blood and guts look to fly out randomly..
The way Ermac was thrown into the pillars look's ragdoll.. because his arms and legs interact with the actual pillars and spikes.. allowing for a realistic look.

And "Mortal Kombat" and "Physics" are used in the same sentence when we speak of an MK that involves 3D engines that involve 3D movement and effects.

Horrid flaming I knew I'd get..

Yeah Totaly agree Wings...

Ragdoll physics are too good for a fighting game..
When you look to Max Payne 2, UT 2003-2004, Half Life2, Doom 3 just unbelievible: You shoot a guy in front of a stair and see how it rumbles down the stairs too realistic but they can implement some pre-animated sequences for specific moves like fatalities, sweeps or uppercuts etc... but by using ragdolls we won't see any dumb out of this world animations...
All Im saying is that in certain instances MK would look awesome with ragdolls.

The way the opponent is going to fall down the sky tower differently each time.. or when someone is blown up - the parts fly different all the time.
