to me raiden seems like a very solid character. he has a counter (which helps) and his staff is quiet powerful. his style branch is strong but he lacks good low attacks. he is a very solid character for beginners. his shoulder special is fast and can be used to retaliate attacks. i used to use him when i just got the game, but he gets a little dull. he also has one of the most damaging normal throws in the game. i believe raiden is pretty popular, a lot of people use him, and he is definately not one of the worst characters in the game.
ps. if your playing someone who knows raiden quiet well, his staff is very predictable.

I have a feeling I could make you change your mind, that is, if you ever see me play with Raiden! I can do every single combo, style branch combo, and any basic or special oves with Raiden. My biggest Combo with Raiden is 10 hits. (I think Raiden is totally bad ass, and ready to shock....opps, I mean rock!)

I find Raiden a little sluggish. He just feels that way to me.
Though I'm more into the faster characters like Sonya and Reptile (especially Reptile. God I love that lizard).
However, his staff is very powerful, and of course, has long reach, making it a very useful tool.

Same here man...I find him slow =/...!

im not saying he isnt a good character. but other characters like sub zero, reptile, sonya can run all over him. hes very solid, and his combos r not that damaging either.

Raiden is very powerful and he can stand his ground against any other character. Just pull out Staff and see your opponent tremble.

Rivercrest, cudos to u man. i am ashamed to admit that i can't do Raiden's triple style branch combos, although i can do everything else. but i did find a combo that hits for 14 hits and 40% damage.

Raidens low attacks are fine. What he lacks are launchers, thus giving him less and fewer custom juggle combos. I like him but would not pick him in a tournament situation.

Hopefully he will get revamped with some of his classic moves. That would be kool if he could fly and teleport again.

I really love Raiden's power! Here is the 10 hit style branch combo that I perform with Raiden.

X-Box: X, X, Y, L trigger, X, A, L trigger, B, B, Y, B

Gamecube: B, B, Y, L trigger, A, X, L trigger, X, X, Y, X

I don't have the PS2 version, sorry. This Style Branch combo makes Raiden perfectly unstoppable.

Rayden is the character I use the most, but it is true that he isn't the best character out there.

How come people have some inovative combos to post, or some amazing ones, and there are none for Rayden? Is it because he doesnt have much juggles? Or shit maybe Im just wrong again.

na i used raiden as well, once you get raiden down with his combos he'll kick ass but it can be in the butt that some combos are hard to pull off.

I'm sorry to say this, but Sonya sucks a hell of a lot more than Rayden.
Rayden is alright. His staff style is pretty good, one of my favorites. You just gotta know how to use him right. In staff continuously pressing Z could singley beat Moloch, it's cheap but effective. Back + X, Back + X, Back + Y in his Staff is also a very good combo for beginners.
His specials are not too bad either. Rayden is not the best, but certainly not the worst.
