Did the "deadly alliance" (Shang Tsung and Quan Chi) finnish him off properly? Is he dead.... that is the question!

Nope, Kahn didn't die. They thought they killed him but he did pull through.
Kahn is the man.

Officially, no!
Unless he dies between MKDA and MKD he's still alive! His survival has never been fully explained, though it's understood that Quan Chi and Shang Tsung beat him within an inch of his life and left him for dead. Kahn was overthown and greatly weakened by the assault - yet he still lives, lurking in the shadows with vengeance in mind...
Peace!

By that time, I think Quan and Shang are going to be six feet under.

Actually the Dragon King Ruled before Kahn and is Ruler of outworld before he died prematurely, thus DK is the emperor before Shao kahn time.

Everything in MKDA points to him being dead. It says he is dead many times and even refers to Reptile finding his corpse. There is nothing in MKDA to even hint that he was "just weakened" or anything like that.
A lot of fans go around saying "Ed Boon said this" and "but Ed Boon said that!" but I'm not sure what they're talking about. Can anyone cite a specific article or quote where Ed Boon said Shao Kahn was alive?

I hope he is alive, but all signs point to yes. Boon did say he wa salive (sorry I can't give a direct reference), but I think he's dead. We may see him again.
Why would Kahn allow himself to be killed so easily?
If I was the leader of a group of power hungry individuals, I'd be watching my underlings no matter how powerful I was. I'd want to know their wherabouts at all times. I'd have plans to counter mutiny, insurrection, uprising, I'd have doubles/decoys, false info about myself, et cetra...

He didn't "allow" himself to be killed. He fought back but was ultimately overpowered.
Reptile was on his way to warn him but was just too late, thanks to Nitara.

Well I think the chat transcript may be impossible to find but Ed Boon did most definately say Kahn isnt out of the picture yet. That is kind of common knowledge.

Didn't look like much of a fight just sitting on his throne.

According to some info in the game, Shao Kahn put up a great fight. I dunno why they didn't show it, though. It might have something to do with his "death" and return.

If you're talking about the Fight Night Chat after MKDA came out then no, Ed Boon did not say Kahn was alive. In fact Ed Boon didn't answer the question at all, Alexander Barrentine did. The answer was...
[22:37] Bear in mind that Shao Khan is a hugely powerful entity. He may not be out for the count yet. We'll need to see.
As far as I know this is the only chat to mention Kahn.
I think this whole "OMG Ed Boon said Kahn was alive~!" thing is just another example of somebody making something up and the rest of the internet just believing it and spreading it around until it's "common knowledge".
If I'm wrong and somebody can provide an actual source and cite of when Ed Boon said Kahn was alive then I'd really like to see it.
I'm not saying he won't be back though. He very well could return in MKD or in a future game. But at this point, with what we've got to go with, he is very much dead.

Well if he's "not out for the count", then what?
Even if he is dead, they could just pull a Cage/Goro/Kano/Kang with him and have him return triumphantly. Onaga "The Dragon King" may have been first, but Shao Kahn is the true emperor of Outworld, my emperor.

He said he MAY not be. As in, they could change things in future products.
There's a bunch of ways he could return. He could come back to life, they could say he was never really dead, who knows?
Again, I'm not saying Kahn is going to be dead forever and will never return. In fact I'm guessing he'll be back. My point is, as of now, he is dead and Ed Boon never said he was alive.

I agree with Anyanka here. I believe Kahn is dead until further proof. Actually, no, I'm keeping an open mind like before, but I'm predicting he will return eventually.

I predict he'll return too, but we have to go by what we know now.
Alright, as long as his story/reason for returning makes sense, *cough*Goro in MK4*cough* I'm fine with him being "dead".
Anyways, wasn't the entire storyline changing to the past few games actually being Cage's movies or something? That would at least give an explanation for MK4.

Well, Goro's death was always more vague than Kahn's. Goro was said to be "apparently" dead in MK II. So the idea of him returning in MK4 isn't too hard to swallow. With Kahn they say he's dead a bunch of times and talk about the body.
Yes, the current story is that Cage never died. The deaths were all things that happened in his movies. IMO this is the worst storyline change in the history of the series. It's just so goofy and dumb. But Vogel say's it's true so...not much I can do about it...
"Mortal Kombat 4:The Death and Return of Cage II"
Why don't they just rename him Pheonix while they're at it.

If they aren't going to kill off Liu Kang, they aren't going to kill of Shao Kahn.
