For those of us who played the hell out of MK2, u probably remember how dark and gothic looking MK2 was... MK2 seemed like the only MK game that really had a very dark element to it, it gave it a sort of mysterious look... i was just wondering what ur alls opinion is, should MK6 try and retain the dark and gothic look of MK2 or stick with the up beat look of MK1, 3,4,G, and DA???

Mk should always advance into bigger and better things, yes it should have some of past MKs feel, but it should never dublicate any past MK, because that would be a big mistake (will probably make it a flop), but it should definetly incorporate some of the past instances that made MK a definete success by anyones standards.

I see what ur saying and I agree that MK should keep progressing into bigger and better things, but in MK2 the darkness of it gave it a mysterious feel that made u want to play it over and over again, the others afterward i felt got a lighter more predicatable side to them ( though i love them all) but MK2 sticks out as the one where anything could happen...

Actually I thought MK3 had a very bleak, post-apocalyptic feel to it, so I wouldn't really call that "lighter" than MK2.

But I would like MK6 to have a darker feel than MKDA, a little more of the MK2 kinda feel would be nice, as long as they can incorporate it into the new gameplay.

It should grab a hold of MK2'z (sic)ness by the neck & choke the $#!T out of it and squeeze out the pain. It,hopefully, will give us goosebumpz again. Hookz & chainz, people on spikez, people on fire, dark, weapon filled armory, living forezt, portal, etc.
very kool vibez from that shit.
but - it was also very new to us - hadn't seen that kind of funk before.

I agree with the first post. But I don't think they have any intentions of ever making MK look that real again. Why, I don't know, only Ed Boon or someone who works on the MK team could answer that question.

I think the game needs darkness, and alot of grotesque (sp) behavior. But, I think alot of that had to do with Jonn Tobias. It seems the way people make things "darker" now adays is to add blood, make things look ugly, and put in gothic elements. While all that is good, I think MK6 should receate the feel of MK II, but only in it's own way. Going overboard with gore and detailed renders is cool, but MK II went beyond just the art work. The sounds, the grunts, the music... My favorite memory of arcades was approcing the big screen version of MKII for hte very first time. Hearing that haunting music, Really the whole game was fun but in desperation. I just want MK6 to be it's own game, with some well thought out style.
but in a short response, yeah I agree.

MKDA had that gothic oriental look. But I guess not as much as MK2 did.

Mk3 story is one of the best IMO! I loved apocalyptic feel of it. The end of the world

Yeah, I'd be cool to have that type of gaming back. Personally, I didn't like MK:DA's look too much, it was too cartoonish and bright. I want the next game to have a very dark feel to it.

I think you hit it on the head. It was gothic and devestating, the use of colors, and the overall bright mood of most the areans took away from the dire need of the whole story part of the game.. I love mk:da, but the darkness in mkii was just implied in a weird kinda way.
No matter what we do - honestly - you can never bring back the impression and magic of MK2. Because face it.. we've seen it before.. we've lived it before. We remember seeing the MK2 machine and our brain didn't quite register it yet. That's something that cant be duplicated. This is why I am hoping MK6 just shocks us in a whole *new* way.. using elements that havn't been seen in the fighting genre and taking that MK2 substance and "squeezing the hell out of it."

I've gotta ask how the hell MK2 had a gothic look and/or feel? It felt like a battle. One thing that made MK2 unique compared to the other MKs is that it didn't feel like much of anything. It felt just right..perfectly right. MK1 had the oriental feeling. MK3 had the war feeling. MK4 kinda had that side story feeling, and MKDA felt liike a bunch of things, but MK2..gothic? I wouldn't say so. Gothic to me is Shang Tsung's Soul Chamber in MKDA. Gothic to me is the church in MK3. Nothing about MK2 feels gothic to me at all.

Also, you can't get that MK2 feeling back. It just can't be matched feel wise. I like how MKDA feels, and I appreciate it for what it is, but MK2 feel is unforgettable and unmatchable in my opinion. Can MK6 be better than MK2? Of course it can. I think MKDA is better than MK2, so I believe MK6 can too. But will the feel be the same or the look? Nah, doubt it.

I believe MK6 should have a mix of an earthrealm feel and a dark feel.

Personally, I think MK2 had a feel, and that feeling was that of darkness. Sure, all of the other games have had this element, but no game had as much of a feeling of darkness and despair as MK2 did. I would DEFINITELY like to see those elements return, but in a new way. I agree with everyone else that has said that MK6 shouldn't rehash old ideas.

As for the gothic idea, that immediately makes me think architecture. The church in MK3, the armory in MK2 etc. I'd love to see backgrounds with this type of architecture. Something midithisthingisdisabled in appearance yet modern at the same time.

Yes , absolutely. Atmosphere is extremely important to any game, and mortal kombat 2 nailed it.It felt dark and grimey. In the battles you felt like your life was on the line, and that you had to win. Mortal kombat 1 had the scariest atmosphere. The stages were abandoned and looked like they were supposed to. The stages in part two where a little lighter but it still carried that feeling of evil. MK6 needs that atmosphere because deadly alliance was too light and safe.

Mk2 had a gothic feel. Gothic is dark, close to evil, and mysterious, I'm pretty sure that was what he was talking about. Mk2 was just like that.

I like the idea. If MK6 could freak me out on the level that the Silent Hill games have, I might not even feel the need to play anything elsegrin

MK2 had a dark, ancient Asian, black magic style to it. I loved it man!! Reading some of your post brought the memories back to me. How it felt the first time I saw that game in the Arcades I was just amazed by it all!! It was the game that enveloped me. The sounds, the effects, the feel, the stages, etc.etc.etc. Truly just amazing!!! IMO MK1 didn't hold a candle next to MK2. I would love MK6 to feel this way against DA!! Hell yea, bring back MK2's mysterious feeling!! I want to be enveloped by MK again.
But in light of this I must say that the exterior stage to Shang Tsung's Palace / Brige in DA did have a little bit of a dark feel to it. That is my favorite stage in DA!!

Yeah, I gotta say that MK2's look really grabbed me when I first saw it and played it in the arcade. The use of dirty grays, blacks, purples, dark greens with the only real bright colors coming from fire. MK:DA had too much in the way of bright, vibrant colors. Perhaps some of that came from the fact that the characters seemed almost shiny, but as far as the backgrounds were concerned, there simply wasn't that same feeling of foreboding in levels like the ice level and the portal as there was in MK2.

The Pit II, the Wasteland, the Living Forest, the Armory, etc all had a very cryptic and foreboding feeling that almost made you feel uneasy. If EB and company can catch that look and feel in 3D, I'll be that much more into MK:D.
I've said it countless times on this forum.. I wish that they would reincarnate a couple levels from all the past MK's. And having the fighting on certain pits that are bridges (Pit II) then fight in 2d but of course with the 3D engine. Thats realistic.. not every arena needs to be an open Soul Calibur-esque stage. This is MK damnit! :sigh: This whole news of Konquest and garbage makes me really uneasy about the substance of MK6. If they wanna waste time and space making a dumb-assed Konquest about learning characters.. God help this game.

I totally agree.
I would also like to see more dark sound effects in the game.
I think the sound effects, voices, etc where much darker in MKII.
Especially in the arcade when you got a flawless victory with a fatality, lol
Very bassy sounding and dark.

You have all left out one of the most important elements of MKII that made it so sick. The fact that the characters weren't renderend, they were stop-motion-photographed. The fact that it was REAL PEOPLE made the game, and ESPECIALLY The fatalities, so great. I would KILL for mk6 to be stop motion photgraphed again. Or maybe an option for players to choose, rendered or photographed character fights.

Watching "graphics" rip off some graphics off of some graphics isn't the same as watching a "guy" rip off the "head" off of another "guy"
