Apparently it does from the new MK deception trailer!
MK2 also had pretty cool character design--although I loved the natural, stealthy look of the ninjas in the original MK, 2's design looked somewhat more warlike. Jax had a nice design (much better than his bloated, comical appearance in MK4&5)--great fatalities, too. And then Baraka was introduced--a very unique, idiosyncratic character. It's a known fact that if you have blades growing out of your arms, then there's going to be some savage bloodshed--that's dark.
Some of the stages were incredible--I enjoyed the forest and armory especially, and whenever we got to the portal we always had a feeling that something cool could pop up at any time.
When 3d fighters began to emerge I too thought that MK should never go that route--MK looked much better than the jagged plastic models abounding, but I enjoy the freedom of movement--I can only hope that some of the settings can be as epic and expansive as those in Mace: The Dark Age. MKDA's textures and models were perhaps too exagerrated and cartoonish--a few characters (Kenshi, Kung Lao) being the exception. Perhaps Midway may go the route of Gran Turismo and start basing their textures on digitized (or digital) photographs).
