Earthrealm is destroyed by The Dragon King. The surviving Earth warriors flee to Edenia, where they meet a nomadic Shokan mage who explains to them a way to rebuild Earth. At the end of the tournament, Scorpion and a new Netherealm-bound fighter use their inner essence of Netherealm to destroy the Dragon King and Kung Lao sacrifices himself to recreate Earthrealm as per the Shokan mage's prophecy.

Thinking that he's dead, subby checks for his pulse. he had a strong pulse, even though the body was extremely dusty and covered in cobwebs. so, subby takes him home and only tells his younger brother (current subby). little do they know what the body possessed. after, when new subby becomes grandmaster, he was looking for students, and remembered the man which his brother gave him over a decade ago. with the help of the elders, subby gets the man out of a seemingly eternal coma. subby trains him and discovers something extrodinary: the man possessed a hidden rage that could rival that of the ONIS. so, with subbys help, fury (the man's new codename) could use his anger as strength.

meanwhile, the world is plagued in evil cause by a mysterious three, one of brutality, one of treachry, and one of greed, dubbed "THE EVIL TRINITY". unlike the deadly alliance, these warriors were forced to join by the late Prince of Darkness, Satan. their purpose, to rid the world of humankind by using Lucifer's Lost Son, The Key Of The End. but, they searched for this Lost Son for many centuries, but no success. so they plan to hold a new Mortal Kombat as their last chance to find him and succeed in their mission. they might be lucky...........

Some people do think they where two different demon's. Some think that while he was in heaven he was known as Satan and when God cast him out he became known as Lucifer.

The MK universe is essentially polytheist, and I think many MK fans agree that involving Lucifer in the storyline of Shinnok was completely daft and silly. I personally wouldn't like the idea.
