Such as Bo'Rai Cho (who took him seriously?), Mokap, Rain (open for argument), Meat, or Stryker (who wasn't a joke character, per se... just a joke in general)?
Fatality.

None of them were joke characters in my opinion and we don't need any. Zebron could have been the only joke character, but thank god he was cancelled.

Yeah, they were joke characters.
Bo'Rai Cho was a fat, flatulant drunk.
Meat was a frickin' bloody skeleton.
Mokap was a motion capture artist.
Rain was a spoof of Purple Rain.
Stryker, well, Stryker was just a joke.

But, I DO think there should be joke characters in MK:D, like Orog, Goro's younger, mentally challenged brother!

I don't think there should be joke characters, the earlier games got by without them just fine. Mokap is the only true 'joke' intended character, but we've got him now none the less. He, and all those with weak stories behind, should get a big rewrite to make them something better than what they are now.

I hate joke characters, they should have just added older characters instead of them..

like really, who wants to use a motion capture artist..... :/

I don't get you people. Every fat, drunk person is a joke nowadays? And how's Stryker a joke? He is a normal person. Is he a joke because he has guns and bombs? maybe the way he looks? What is it? It gives diversity to the game. All you guys wanna see are oriental monks and lots of them.

If by diversity you mean a guy who dressed like a queer and sucks at fighting, then, yes, Stryker is a diverse character. Still, Bo'Rai Cho could have been a serious character, like E. Honda in Street Fighter, if it weren't for his... um... unique moves (the "puke" attack, the belly bounce, and his pervasive farts.) And, no, I wouldn't mind seeing another monk character. Fatality.

Just because he uses the style of Drunken Fist doesn't mean BRC is always Drunk. BRC is not a joke character Neither is Stryker.

Considering Bo'Rai Cho was the second best character in MKDA (not a personal design opinion; a fact, based on countless tournaments) Everyone who's ass he kicked took him seriously. Rain and Stryker weren't jokes. Mokap was a joke but no harm done.

MEAT IS NOT A CHARACTER HE IS A MODE!!!! This isn't directed at you, but I just need to say this. Don't retort "Well then neither is Smoke/Mokap/Blaze". All of those characters had stories, and moves. Meat was a mode. Meat was whoever you picked, with their skin peeled off. That's it.

Stryker could be cool. Weapons are his night sticks and he could instead of throwing granades and pulling out his 9. He could use the taser to stun you and get off a combo. He could still have the similar take down and throw he had from MK3.hmmm
Yeah. I could imagine playing Stryker in a newer 3d version and actually like him.

I think the MK Team should make Stryker more SWAT team and less
rent-a-cop. He should be a badass cop with all the gadgets and weapons he needs. If Sonya can be in MK, than surely Stryker can be in MK.

hell no joke characters have no place in MK (mokap anyone) and for the record Rain was not a joke character he had a real storyline and was unlucky enough to be become one of the pallette swaped ninjas except purple other then his look Rain is an original character and he should return cause look at what they've done with all the ninjas none of them have ever looked better

I'm sorry. I should have clarified and used better diction.

Joke characters can have stories, too. Dan, from Street Fighter, is a joke character. Yet, he has a story, and is actually in the anime incarnation of the series.
Joke characters, like Mokap, can have stories. Rain was created part as a "joke" (Purple Rain) and part as a new character (and to push player's tolerance on just how far their pallet-swapping could go).
Bo'Rai Cho is a great fighter... in the hands of a great player. If it were me, I would get my butt kicked using him, but I could probably stomp anyone with Sub-Zero, Kung Lao, Scorpion, or Shang Tsung.
Stryker, okay, doesn't dress like a "queer" (sorry if my termanology offended anyone), but he doesn't look rather menacing. He's a rent-a-cop, and I could easily have made him look cooler myself (AHA! New fan-art idea!)

Joke characters are, IMO, merely characters who are not to be taken seriously. Someone always will, and that's where the danger is, because the rest of us don't think of joke characters as a "challenge" or a real threat. And then we get our butts kicked. Suddenly, I'm beaten by Stryker. Rain knocks me senseless. Mokap gets off a "Flawless Victory". Sheesh. But, still, after the dust settles, the creators put them in there as characters to diversify the cast, but they may not necessarily be the most dramatic or memorable characters (oh, I'm gonna hear it from the Rain fans.)
Fatality.

I don't mind joke characters at all, as I'm a humorous kind of guy by nature. But it seems that most of the MK fan community reacts _very_ badly to joke characters. People are _still_ burning Mokap in effigy.

BTW, I don't think Zebron was cancelled, because I don't believe he was ever intended to be in any Mortal Kombat game in the first place. One of the character designers came up with him while doodling, and Ed Boon put the picture up on his web site as a joke.

I'm a huge Rain fan but Reptiles first and i haven't heard any lizard bashing in this thread so were good haha i just wanted to reply and say thanks for letting me in on the "Purple Rain" thing now i can see where your coming from calling Rain a joke character but still i don't consider him to be one i mean Rain was sick his special moves were untouchable imo and i liked his storyline also theirs a place for Rain in the MK:D storyline with Kitana kidnapped and the return of Sindel Rain has the perfect cue to come back in this game and i'm really expecting to see him

It seems to me that a few of you think that unpopular characters are jokes....

stryker and co are awesome...

the motion capture guy, that is a joke/pethetic.
Bo Rai Cho is my worst character in MK history, He's the no.1 joke character!

Pretty damn pissed off that he's in MKD to be honest, a space well and truly wasted

Bo Rai Cho is great..

He has a unique style and "shape" for a mortal kombat game..

I've never seen a Martial-Arts Master have the 'Fat bastard' look before. it's stupid. He has the wrong look for a Master completely.

Also, how the hell would he be able to defend himself? Slap his opponent to the floor with his belly, puke on them, then fart in their face. and by then he will be breathless anyway.

Wow, I sure would love to get trained by this 'Master'. I'd be prepared for anything Outworld would throw at me, knowing that i've been trained by the great Bo' Rai Cho

WELL HERE IT COMES!!!!!!! j/k I understand why you think that about rain, and i agree with you 100%! We was pretty much a joke, but i like him for his story-line, his potential if they revamped him, and his colour!! I mean, that bright purple makes fighting as him much more lively and fun. grin
So don't worry dude, no harm done on this side wink

No joke characters, unless they can be serious. Cage is a joke character in a sense, yet he remains credible and liked. Mokap was a huge disappointment because he looked stupid and his story was a joke.

If a joke character can come into the series be credible and serious at times, then it could work and by all means, add them. If they are going to be like Mokap, then I'd rather they not see the light of day!

What I think is that Mokap wasnt a joke character, but rather a reward character. In the video you get to see carlos Pesina doing motion capture so when you finish conquest mode, he's lika a small reward. They only gave him a funny story as a sort of "tribute" to Pesina's motion capture skills. (Well thats in my opinion anyways)
