Should weapons be able to be destroyed?

posted01/08/2004 09:59 AM (UTC)byIf weapons are gonna be in the next game, that is. They probably will. But do you think they should be able to get ruined during combat this time? Like, if you're character's weapon is some kind of sword and your opponent has like a staff or the Jojutsu weapon Bo Rai Cho has, if you hit the staff just right with your sword you can chop it in half? I think that would be cool... And what else would be cool is after you chop the staff in half your opponent would be able to use both halfs and fight you with them. Or intense sword fighting between you and your opponent you may be able to end up cutting your oppoents blade in half, or getting yours cut in half. But it would be cool getting your weapon destroyed by your opponent but also still being able to use the left over peices to your advantage.
Or your opponent using the left over pieces of YOUR weapon to his/her advantage.
Or your opponent using the left over pieces of YOUR weapon to his/her advantage.

In the game Soul Blade (arcade version was called "Soul Edge" - the game that preceded SoulCalibur), they had such a feature. The only problem is that the game had very little depth to play without a weapon. Basically, you were screwed without it. (That's the main reason the took it out when the SoulCalibur came out.)
It might work a bit better in Mortal Kombat 6 though since there's an established non-weapon fighting system. In other words, you wouldn't be complete helpless. I'd say its a decent idea.

That's a cool idea. Like Sub-Cero said, the character wouldn't be completly helpless since there's a non-weapon fighting system. Besides, the characters have projectiles. For examble, let's say Scorpion lost his sword, he still has his spear which can't be taken off of him.
Peace.

Yeah, i've never played that SoulBlade game though... And i've only played about 2 minutes of Soul Calibur 2 at a store one time when they had it into the PS2 they had hooked up for people to play... Like they do at Wal-Mart... So I don't know very much about the games.
But as for MK6, yeah... It would be cool to see weapons destroyed. Also like I said, if the left over piece(s) of the weapon is able to be used to your, or your opponents advantage.

Yeah, for example, let's say a sword is broken, you can still use the hilt to throw it at your opponent.
Peace.

Or you can pick up the other half of the blade and throw it into the opponent for an Impale.

Great idea, I would love an updated version of the MK4 throwing weapons ability.

That's a great idea....I feel that with 'breakable' weapons, MK6 could be the most well rounded of fighters to date....now if we could only get that 'MK Mystery' to return....
I also would love to see projectiles 'break' when matched...for instance, if Sub throws an Ice Ball and Shang throws some Fireballs, I would love to see the Ice freeze the fire, which would then fall to the floor and break...I think they could do that for everyone...that would be cool....
Another thing is, after you impale someone in DA, it just disappears the next round...I think after the round is over, when the fighter gets to his/her feet, he could rip the sword out of thier body and throw it to the ground, I just think that would be a lot cooler then it vanishing....

I truly doubt that MK will ever be the way it used to be...there were too many flaws with the old system and they were not 3D. Not even MK 4. If you like old skool, play old skool. There are four previous MK's and several versions of three. MK is tryintg to draw the hardcore 3D fans. Mk is trying to get the hardcore VF4, SC2, and Tekken players to try MK out. As far as projectiles looking better and canceling out... thats all particle effects...easy. Fireballs canceling each other out??? Sorry, go play street fighter. A 2D game. |
You can read about this and more here.
Peace.

To the topic poster, great idea! I should've thought about this before..
I would also like to see more weapon clashing, like if you have a sword and the other guy has a sword, when you attack at the same time, you should struggle with the opponent and smash some buttons to trigger a kool move.. or something like that.

Your idea is really good too Shaolinchuan... I would love for that to happen.
Like how Blade and Deacon Frost held in place with their swords togther before Blade broke out and tried a roundhouse on him.
Btw, thanx for replying, and for liking my idea guys.

Good point. I don't think they will bring Baraka back anyway. They might though.
| Mortalman Wrote: What if Baraka will come back. He probably won't be able to throw his weapon. And what's gonna happen if his swords will crush? Will they grow again? Or maybe they're made of some indestructible material. What do U think? |

I believe that Baraka will return in the MK6 (there is no important reason apparently so that it did not return), and also will return Drahmin with the same aspect of it had in the MKDA (in ending of Quan Chi, it would only be fulfilled that both Onis is going to hunt to Quan Chi, but Quan Chi manages to escape of some form of them), reason why would have an equal problem to the one of Baraka.
Perhaps their arms are indestructible, and that would be its advantage with respect to the rest of fighters (each fighter has an advantage with respect to the others, although generally that advantage covers a deficiency)
PD: I don't put my arguments on which I think on Baraka, Drahmin, Quan Chi and the others so that it is not the subject of post.

First I like the idea although a game with such features starts to sound like it is too heavily dependant on the weapon, like Bushido Blade (or whatever it was called)! But I think certain weapons like swords or staffs could be broke. But then I think back to MK4. Why did Lui Kang bring a sword and Sonya bring some fan-mill thingy? Why did Sonya not bring a semi-automatic weapon? That is the problem with weapons. I can see someone like Kano pulling a knife out, and things like that but when Raiden/Rayden is fighting with a staff it is just kind of dumb.

Why is Raiden fighting with a staff dumb? That's like...well..his god staff(although I thought he gave it to Kai). But I agree with you on the Sonya thing. She should have had a military knife. Kano should have had knives like the movie. Him using Butterfly knives makes no sense. Hell all his fighting styles made no sense for his character. He's more of a kickboxing and american boxing kind of guy in my opinion.
Anyway, back on topic. Terrific idea. I agree the weapons should also be able to be thrown like MK4 and impale or simply bash skulls in. Also weapons should be picked up and used by opponents...Well...I sure didn't add anything new to the conversation. Go on.

This is the kind of stuff I looked forward to in MK:DA,but this forum is for MK6 right?Yes, it would be awesome if they'd do that with weapons, and perhaps do something like that with certain parts of a charcters body....Example:Hit opponent in ribs until they break, and it will really alter the way he performs, and how much more damage he takes when hit in that same "damaged" spot.

Yeah I get ya. I mean so much more could be done with the staff yet the guys at Midway gave him such a limited amount of moves. I was kinda depressed to see this because the staff is my favorite weapon.

How about instead of breaking the weapons you could knock them out of your opponents hand and pick them up yourself. Then you would have their weapon fighting style in your moves list as long as you had the weapon. Or you could just impale them with it if you want. You would have to hit them with a fierce combo or special move to knock the weapons out of there hands of course.
