They were supposed to be dead after MK:DA but people are talking about how in the intro to MK:D, they aren't dead or something. I do doubt that they'll be in this game, unless they're super-unlockables or something. Nobody knows who the super-unlockables are yet so we'll just have to wait

My question is is why would they be? They both get their asses kicked in Deadly Alliance and were the bosses. Why would they bring them back? That'd be sort of redundant, imo. The only evidence I can see of them coming back is Quan Chi's fortress, but that's not really all that much evidence since the Kutan Palace in Deception, too.
Also on the subject of Quan Chi and Shang Tsung: Alot of people have speculated Quan Chi as "Super Unlockable." Exactly what does it mean to be "Super Unlockable", just that it's going to be a very well hidden secret?

I could see Shang Tsung coming back because of the whole souls thing.

they won't be playable but they can play a part in the story. QuanChi atleast. Shang was confirmed dead.

There is no reason that Quan Chi shouldn't be a Super Unlockable. He clearly didn't die from the explosion, and he is too important in the storyline to kill him after two games.

damn straight, Quan Chi deserves his rightful chance for revenge, and plus if hes not then Scorpions presence in Deception is just for a spot fill, he has no purpose without Quan Chi

Shang apparently is dead(because Liu Kang spirit was release from his body), I'm unsure about Quan Chi, but I hope that he didn't die, he is a very important character in the storyline.

The "super unlockable" characters are supposed to be characters who you can play with but aren't in the select screen like the initially selectable characters and normal unlockable characters. Nobody knows who they are or how many there will be or even if there will be any at all.

Well Quan Chi appears to be heavilly rumoured still.
The theme of the game is Deception and considering that the theory that Liu Kang is really Shang Tsung in a morphed state must be possible.

actually it did say that Scorpion meets the elder gods and something happens that will change him. he still would have a point just what exactly is the point would be the question.

. But I'm not too worried. They kind of need the spotlight. and since they're not crucial to the story, they're not really needed.
And I like the Liu Kang is Shang Tsung idea.
