I think one (of the many) fears mk fans have at this point is, what if the series just tailspins into vs game after vs game. You could almost liken it to horror movie remakes, once you remake a series like halloween or the upcoming friday the 13th, you can't just go back the orignal cannon.

If they do indeed treat this as a side game(like most are hoping) than that's great. But what if it's a success? Despite the huge uproar of the mk fanbase, there are actually a lot of people very excited about the prospect of an mk vs dc video game. Not to mention the T-rating has enabled any 13 year old to just walk up without there parents and buy the game, an audience that used to have to go through there parents first. With that fact and the legions of comic fans this may appeal to, this game has the potential to do huge numbers, something a "two steps away from bankruptcy" company like midway would love to milk for all it's worth.

I don't know about the rest of you, but i'm just worried that this, a vs game, will not just be a side game, but will become mortal kombat. The story(what's left of it anyway) up untill armageddon forgotten and the war between kombatants and superheroes becomes the cannon(hence the horror movie reference) and the series just keeps moving in that direction. That's where a lot of these fears and cries of anger are coming from(as far as i can tell).

The series needed a reboot gamplay wise. The story was in dire need of repair. Out with the old, in with the new, I understand that. But to just twist and skew the series into just a straight gimmick is the wrong way to go. The series has been brought back from oblivion before, gameplay and story wise (Deadly Alliance) it could've happened again.

Like I said, if this sells well enough and the right people see dollar signs, this isn't just going to be a spin-off it could become mk.

Thoughts?

Hopefully it won't be what MK will become if the game is successful. This is a test run and they should treat it as such and leave it at just the one crossover game.
If the game is a success then it will have produced a wonderful learning curve for them. What should be done is the following. They should take the same work ethic, enthusiasm and confidence they seem to have for this project and pour it into the next MK. They should then add the same amount of hard work and time that they no doubt want to put into this game with the key focus being to further develop and improve the fighting engine. (Note that Boon has mentioned nothing of side games and such and seems to be intent on improving the gameplay.) They should then also add the things that would make it an MK game and treat them with the same level of attention, detail, creativity etc that they have demonstrated in the past and we should hopefully see something worthwhile as MK9.
This game is yet another chance for them to try correct their past errors and produce a quality game with a great fighting engine that is playable at all levels and a story that is engrossing to the fans to the point where we can actually be proud of the finished product for once. Everything will be banking on what could effectively be their last chance with some fans. If they can't get it right after this, MKA, MKD and MKDA, then there's no probably no hope really.

It will be hugely successful, financially. But it won't be the future of MK to feature DC characters or a lack of gore or anything of the like. I don't think Ed Boon's ego would allow his creation to get assimilated by or overshadowed by fucking Superman and it's associated fanboys. And I wouldn't blame him. Scorpion and Sub Zero are great videogame characters, I wouldn't have them take a backseat to anyone if I had created them. I'm sure the game following this will just be MK business as usual, and hopefully (oh please for the love of God) they will have learnt something about creating a playable fighting game during this experiment.

Sadly, I dont think they will ever learn their lesson about making a good fighting system.

I hope its successful, but I hope it remains as a crossover side-extra-game.

It should never “BE” Mortal Kombat...

Just imagine MK9 referring to the final events of MKA and mentioning Wonderwoman and Superman as well....ugh. *pukes*

The idea is fantastic, it looks fun and interesting, but just as a side game, as something extra, not a real part of MK.

Hopefully, and logically, it'll be a side/what if story...Like the King of Fighters. From what I understand, one of the characters, Geese Howard, died in one of the Fatal Fury games? and hasn't returned, meaning he was supposed to be dead, but he returns for the King of Fighers games..So I'm thinking that TKOF is basically a "what if" game...

In other words, I don't think you'll have to worry about this being a canon game. A new versus series, perhaps, but not part of the MK Canon...Worst comes to worst this new game will explain what happened at Armageddon and also explain how the M K universe gets rebooted at the end.

This really. I'm wasn't a fan of the Marvel Vs Capcom series of games really. Because, I just hold the comic book guys in a higher regard than the Capcom guys. Same thing with this cross over.

It is a shame that some of what makes Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat is going to be taken out. Mostly because it would have been interesting what the DC guys would have done as their fatalities. Screw out of character bollocks, I want to see Superman cut Scorpion up into cubes with his fucking mind. FUCKING MIND.

There are only a few things I want from this game:
1) Some closure to Armageddon.
2) Genuine leaps forward in the fighting game engine, so the series can be taken somewhat more seriously.
3) Decent voice overs please. I don't want to live in a world where Superman and Sub Zero sound exactly the same.
4) THE GOD-DAMN JOKER. (Mark Hamil plz Mr Boon)
