I don't know about you all, but I got a little fed up of characters and human opponents just sidestepping projectile attacks and then hammering away at me because of the lag time!

I was thinking that the characters could steer their projectiles slightly to the left or right at an angle to catch side-steppers. If you can determine which way they'll step you can catch them off guard. I'm sure in reality characters would actually do this rather than firing straight forward all the time and having them avoid it.

It could be done in game by simply moving the second joystick diagonally up or down or by tapping the d-pad in the same directions after the projectile is released.

If you hit and they block, you get to recover and suffer no lag time or them retaliating. Although if they move in the opposite direction, your probably going to get hit back!

I actually like the way profectiles are.

I think only some characters should control a FEW attacks, like Sektor/Cyrax since they are robots.

Good ideas though. smile

I agree with all of this. I mean to some extent it's like what's the point of even having projectiles when they're so easy to sidestep? Another great thread Tgrant!

The guided projectiles are pretty cool. But what if each projectile had four different ways of being shot. After the first two input commands, the triggers on the controler would indicate which way to fire and the actual button like x would fire it.For example, Sub-Zero's ice shot. It could work like down, forward, hold L1 and press Square to shoot it to the left. On the Xbox it would use the triggers and black and white buttons.

This is an interesting idea. I don't know if it will stop the sidestep problem though. Because when you fire it, no matter what direction it goes, the opponent can still see it coming and sidestep. It would still be cool to be able to fire in differnt ways though.

I'm glad you liked the ideas TomTaz! smile

SmokeNc-017: I think doing it that way would not help reduce sidestepping as the opponent will still see it coming as TomTaz said. Although it's a good idea that would be nice to add in as you could still steer it to catch them off guard.

as good of idea is that is, it's really no different than people jumping projectiles in umk3 and doing the jump punch/combo. much like the 2d games, best time to do them is when your opponent is in the air. if your projectile is blocked, there's lag in every mk too. it's really no different.
I like this idea alot, it would make projectiles more realistic in 3d games..

I mean, come on, if a character is powerful enough to throw a projectile, they have to be skilled enough to direct it..

In Mortal Kombat II, Kung Lao could DIRECT his hat toss up or down...

yeah, realistic. when i throw the football i use my mind to steer it...errr

what they could do is what they did with sub-zero in mk3 with his air ice freeze. you could throw it normal, left, or right to fool opponents. d,f+1 for normal, d,f+1 immediatly followed by pressing up to throw it left (in player 1's position), or d,f+1 immediatly followed by pressing down to throw it right. but steering it, no way.
Maybe multi directional projectiles......

Something Like Shang Tsung has in MK Deadly Alliance...

If you were using the PS2 controler you could use the right analong stick to control the projectile, that's my idea.

Hmmmmm. I like this idea. It does get annoying when the opponent always side steps. Maybe if this is not implemented, they can just speed up time it takes to throw a projectile. Or just speed the projectile up itself. I dunno, but I do think they should do something about it.

Speeding up the projectiles could work, but if they make them too fast it would be really annoying.

mangatropi: That's exactly what I had in mind. On the GameCube you'd use the C-stick.
