OK, we can tell from the high-res render that Sub-Zero's scar IS gone.
Here's possible reasons for it:
1) It's the old Sub - returning
2) It's a new Sub
3) We've gone back in time (not likely)
4) It's fully heally healed now, in MKDA it looked like it was starting to heal, and now it's all gone. The Dragon Amulet could have something to do with this as well.
My bet's on that last one.

Im hoping we have gone back in time....:)
With all the old characters we have been seeing and sub's scar is gone we could be returning between mk2 and mk3 to finish up storylines and answer some questions.

Could be his brother again.. but his brother didn't have the amulet so.. my conclusion is as yours.

I didn't see the amulet in any pic... Just symbols and stuff... No amulet, no scar.. Could this be the older sub-zero??? Could I be right?? This is a game of DEAD kombatants from hell or netherealm!!!!!!!!

Perhaps it's a new brother, a different brother. Or the amulet has healed him completely.
I'm sure his new look will be explained.
ps- I like his fur now, that pic from the PSM magazine shows it nice, I like, I like very much.

Good point it could be a new Sub. I would not mind to see the first Sub also.
Kombat you stole my thread!

maybe its not the real Sub-Zero. maybe its the Shredder and the Turtles will be the Dragon Kings and Mileena is really April?

My vote goes to the latter. This may offend some people, but I think replacing the current Subzero with original Sub would be completely absurd. Younger Subzero has gotten so developed, and has made a thousand times more progress than most the other characters. Why trade that for a character who wouldn't even have a personality if it wasn't for MK:Mythologies?
Sorry guys. Sub has founded a New Lin Kuei, become a headmaster, won the medallion from Sektor, and made peace with Scorpion. Original Sub can't catch up with that in one game.

I agree with TemporaryUserName, it would be riddiculous to justthrow in the older subby, when his little brother has been through so much. If you look at how the scar progresses throught the game it would make sense that it's just healed up.
On a side note, I just love that all the ninja's are returning with their own unique look!

The scar is a mark of death, because Sub-Zero left the Lin Kuei. Now, he is the Grand Master of Lin Kuei, this mark is no more (the rare thing is that still it had it in the MKDA, although it had perhaps not been able to clear)

Don't you guys remember when the GameInformer did a piece on MKDA and the picture of Sub-Zero had no scar? I think it's the same badass Sub-Zero from MKDA except they have not yet added the scar. You guys have a habit of disecting things to death.

The look is based in the ceremonial mask of the Samurais, just as Shredder.

That's what I've been saying, Grandmaster. This same debate raged when MKDA came out, and the first conceptual drawings for Sub-Zero showing him WITHOUT a scar, and then later they began to add the scar. I wouldn't make a big fuss over this yet.
Could it be possible they just didn't put it in yet? Remember the first version or two of arcade MK4? Sub didn't have his scar..then later on they added it in. Might be the same case here, as they are still developing. If not, heck, I vote on the whole healing thingie too.

I'm gonna side either with healing or its not in yet. Heck it could be part of the storyline? Maybe his scar was mystical, and since he isn't marked for death anymore by the clan, they removed it.

I don't know, but i'm liking it!

Maybe since his face is now covered in ice as well as his scar was....you can't see it...Duh!
