The six realms, is probably a place where your character goes on a journey to enhance his/her skills, and also to earn whatever they find. Basically I think that the six realms are consisted of the different earthly elements; fire,water,wind,ice,darkness,etc. Like Scorpion,Subzero,ShangTsung,etc resembling each realm as an assistant boss. And their main boss sits by their side. Your character should have freedom in these realms. He/She should be allowed to access a certain realm first,and then after certain tasks are completed, the allowance into the next realm should be made. But still the player will need to go back into the previous realm to complete certain tasks obtained in other realms. Sounds like Gta, eh? Sounds like a similar comparitive post i made a long time ago about gta and mk. Anyways, allowing a character the freedom to roam an entire realm would make it a different game, which would be exciting to see how your character gets involved throughout an MK lifestyle. Getting to see how the realms change and how alliances and deceptions make and break to change the whole setting. Only certain weapons or secrets are obtained by going through the correct path and challenging the right opponents, and making your journey filled with fortune and fame.
Although, the statement Freedom in Hell, doesn't entirely have to be true. Sometimes you might not have the freedom, where a certain opponent invites you where you have no choice. They'd either invite you by polite ways or the forceful invitation. If your character does see the likes of hell in the realms, where they take the beating of their lives, that is if you are also doing this on purpose to get your character get the living snot kicked out of themselves. You'd probably would like to see your character really end up going to hell, where they'd die and burn and remain forever. This would either finish your character and be the end of your journey. There will be no continuation for your quest. If you do keep killing yourself on purpose. If you are struggling within the realms, and you do manage to go to hell, however, there will be a chance of revival. It will up to the elder gods, to see how well you fared in your journey, and offer a chance to redeem yourself.
