With Mortal Kombat currently on a trend of "Good vs Evil" based storylines rather than the classic "Tournament" driven storylines of MK1 and MK2 I believe that neutral characters's days are numbered. Characters like Nitara and Scorpion, while exciting characters in MKDA, appeared to be deprived of story and action. Lets start with Nitara, not only a new character but a new creature entirely introduced in the the MK world, makes her debut with a weak storyline and ending that is generally uninvolved with the main conflict of MKDA but rather focuses on bargains, noncombative bargains, with two other characters. Scorpion, with his reoccuring motive of vengeance, is on a one-man mission to annihilate Quan Chi, the poor guy never makes it past Moloch and Drahmin meaning that, besides the short fights that took place while both were still in the Netherrealm and those described in Konquest, Scorpion never got his hands on Quan Chi, his sole purpose for existance. I'm a fan of neutral characters, but with the storyline apparently shifting to a battle between two sides I think it is time for neutral characters to jump on one side's bandwagon. This reminds me of the elections in that the Democrats and Republicans are virtually the only two parties that matter.

I agree that Nitara was pretty pointless in the story. There is a coolness to neutral characters that don't take sides and are in it for themselves; but the only way players could probably take advantage is in a story mode where you can switch sides or something like that, which I would like to see as opposed to just fighting ten random characters and getting an ending.

You people think Nitara had a weak storyline??? Her storyline tied so many other storylines together. She got Cyrax stranded in Outworld, which is how Kenshi's storyline got in the mix. This in turn allowed Hsu Hao to play his role by getting both of them stranded, which gave Sonya and Jax more significant personal reasons to be in the game other than just helping out the good guys. Nitara plays a HUGE role in the game with relatively simple actions. Besides, I think her storyline has a lot of potential whether she joins a side or stays neutral.

Also, Nitara stalling Reptile caused him to be late warning Kahn. Had Reptile warned him he probably could have defeated the Deadly Alliance before they really got started.

You know, I never really thought about all that before. It's pretty cool. Nitara has no real ties to anyone and is only out for herself yet her little scheme sets in motion the events of the entire game and she probably doesn't even realize it or care. That's clever.

I like how Nitara plays both Reptile and Cyrax for fools. I like underhanded schemes like that in games. Quan Chi's trickery is also cool. They're much more interesting than the usual bad guy plots of just over powering the good guys. Like it's funny how both Chi and Tsung are planning to stab each other in the back.

You and Sakura both have a point, I overlooked the fact that her story led to a chain of important events but concentrating on Nitara herself she is rather bland in that she seems to no longer have a purpose since her ending most likely occured. If she were to return the whole neutral persona would not work and instead she would have to have a definite objective(either for or against the DK), so while it was vital in MKDA it seems to have failed to give her stability as a reappearing character in the long run.

I can see Nitara's true motives coming to like in Deception. I think she deceived both Reptile and yrax, and played a huge part in the "death" of Shao Kahn. Something that Kung Lao, the new hero of Mortal Kombat, couldn't do. Although it could be argued that Lao gave Kang the strength to do it, I think that Nitara deliberately stalled Reptile to give the Deadly Alliance an almost perfect chance of finishing The Emperor.

I think Nitara didn't send Cyrax back to Earthrealm after Deadly Alliance, but rather to her realm, which was then seperated from Outworld. The more I think about it the more likely it seems that Nitara (or at least the vampire race) will have a huge part in MK6.

Nitara has the orb now, which mean her race of vampires could soon be trying to take over Outworld. Her storyline is pretty involved, but her character is really, really boring. Fix that and you got a great fighter.

I never thought about it that way. Nitara played a huge part in the DA storyline and with out her scheme, the Deadly alliace wouldn't have had a chance.

But, I disagree about her story being to weak to continue. She made a couple enemies mainly reptile, now the Dragon King. They hinted about Nitara's people the Vampire having knowledge about other civilzations namely the Raptors, Saurians whatever. she or another vampire could hold the key to defeating the newest incarnation of the dragon king.

I don't think the characters themselves will fade out, but by the time MK6 culminates, the nuetral warriors will be forced to take sides. Either they'll have to takes sides due to the circumstances, or past experiences will enlighten them to join one alliance or the other.

For an example, Ermac will probably be allied with good in mk:d, mostly because of his previous friendship with Kenshi(if you could call it a friendship). Scorpion too has shown signs that he's beggining to lean toward the side of good. He's done away with his vandetta with Subzero, and although he's fighting Quan Chi out of his own thirst for vengence, he's still combating evil none the less.

Nitara is the only warrior I can imagine still being nuetral by the next game.

I think that they(MK Developers) should add more sides than 2 (good and evil). I think it would be tight if there were many sides like, Dragon King, Earth Realm Fighers, Shao Kahn's group, and so forth and so on.

Gaowei os thinking on the same level as me. I think we should have cults begin to surface, the vampires working as a force from the shadows. There could be a cult to revive Shinnok's fallen power. A group trying to restore Kahn to the throne of Outworld, etc.

I agree. Having multiple factions fighting for their goals would be more interesting than having just the "good vs. evil". If that was the case, then there would not be a need for anymore neutral characters.
