The Kochal awakening mystery (big spoilers)

Ok, so I went to Netherrealm , beat all three guys there to "awaken Kochal" and it gives me a portal to go back to the start of Netherrealm with a chest containing 1000 onyx coins. So is there more to this?? I thought Kochal was the name of a new cool character, some are saying it's the name given to the portal that opens when you beat the 3 guys. Somebody discovered something more about Kochal???
