This has been absent since MK3, due to the hardware and programming abbillity it has been left out of the recent games. But i think this can be accomplished with current technology.

with that said..... I don't think it needs to be shang tsung, although if he does return i think he should have this abbility or don't bring him back at all. I was thinking in the lines of the T1000 from the terminator films that could replicate its enimies (kinda works for a better storyline instead of needing to consume the souls).

when i played Mk2 Tsung was always my pick, I loved playing him cause he was a character that upped the bar as far as difficulty to play, well to play effectively. So what do you guys think about a morpher returning, should it be a boss, playable or non-playable?

Yeah, I always liked using Shang Tsung in MK2 as well for that reason. I think that it'd be nice to see a morphing character back in MK, though maybe not exactly the same as Shang Tsung.

Maybe the character can morph into certain characters at certain times, maybe even into characters from past MK games that aren't in MK8. Maybe this character defeated several past MK kombatants at Armageddon, though he himself wasn't in the Armageddon game. Perhaps he appears "later" or something along those lines.

It might be a cool way to include a few of the past characters without actually having to give them a story or a slot on the select screen. Maybe you can use those characters for certain combos or something along those lines.

Either way, just an idea.

I too liked the fact that Shang was able to take the form of his opponents, well all the characters in MK2 and MK3.
If Shang was to return in MK8, he should get the morphing back, like how he had it in MK2 and MK3. It would be cool if Shang could morph into the characters who don't make the MK8 cut, well not all..just a select few.

If Tsung is not included in MK8, I say bring in Meat. He would be the best one to take on the morphing role, in my opinion anyways. However, there are two others that could possibly get the morphing as well. How about, Shinnok or Shujinko? Both of them had it in the past, but it was hard to know because either did not actually transfrom/morph into the characters. This time around, it could work!

Yup so, either of these would do the job.....

Meat, Shinnok or Shujinko!

Well, It has not been done in the past five generations because of the complexity (and extreme difficulty) of morphing 2 completely different models into one another. Other than masking it with a shitload of smoke or something to that extent, having a morph is not very easy. Take Liu-Kangs Dragon fatality that was done in 3D for Mortal Kombat 4 and in Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks for example: it had to be masked with smoke, because the morphing is not easy to do as an actual animation. (I am a 3D modeler/animator; I know what im talking about, as I've tried to do this on many occasions for a redone version of Scorpions Mortal Kombat 4 fatality where he morphs into a giant scorpion) Usually, the biggest problem faced when making the animation where the model is to morph from one model to another is the screwyness of the joints, just sporatically moving about, greatly changing position, etc. On top of that issue, there is the problem of creating brand-new geometry and adding it to the model's existing geometry. Now, this would not be too big of a problem if there was unlimited memory for the console, but having every single character model as a part of the base model would put the poly-count through the roof for the character, and well, in any game, that is very much an undesirable thing, as it leads to huge performance issues. Granted, that most likely would not be such an issue on the PS3 and probably not too bad on the 360, but the wii would not be able to handle it at all. But, even so, there is still the issue of loading the other character (this is assuming that you go with the whole "smoke concealment" method). In Mortal Kombat Trilogy for the PS1, using Shang Tsung, and morphing made you, and the other player quite angry, as due to memory limitations, only 4 total characters were able to be loaded at one time. When Shang morphed, the game actually had to load all the sprites, controls, and sounds for the character he morphed into, right on the spot. this caused a 1-2 second span of no movement or action at all, as the game was loading. Granted, we have more RAM in consoles now, but still, either all characters would have to always be loaded when using the morphing character, or the game would have to pause momentarily for the character to be loaded. Morphing is not a problem in Fatalities, because the game is able to do the 'starting' animations for the Fatality whilst loading the new model, not causing any pause in action.

I get that it's not easy to do but it still can be done and should be.
I'd still be happy with a puff of smoke tho.

but like i said, the memory management working on 3 platforms simultaneously getting everyghing working well is painfully difficult (if the cover with smoke idea is used).. I think the closest we will get to 'good' morphing in a 3D video game is in Bloody Roar. (although it hides it with an explosion) It can be done, yes, but it would take almost inconceiveable ammounts of work to do it good. Doing one such animation is easier in an FMV, but in real-time its not very plausable.
