The Liu Kang in MKD could be a completely new character and not the same as the Liu Kang we have come to know and hate. I am against resurrections (unless they are very plausible) but in this case, we aren't really getting Liu Kang back, are we? We're getting a new spectre-like character that WAS Liu Kang.
I suggest we wait and see what becomes of this spirit. I just hope he has a new name.
well i'm thinking he is still going to have fireballs, the flying kick and bicycle kick, so he is still essentially the same. granted he will have whole new fighting styles but why not just have chow kang in the game and be done with liu for good?
Well if the story of MKD does take place after MKDA then in order for Kang to be around Shang Tsung must have been defeated and so no return for him this time round.
Scorpion gained new powers after dying, why shouldn't Liu Kang?
Though I liked the fact that he died, you must understand that the MK universe is not the same as the normal universe. There are souls, and souls can never be destroyed and if you have the power to manipulate souls, like Shang, Shao, Rayden and Shinnok you CAN resurrect characters.
But for Liu Kang to exist, this can only mean that Shang Tsung has died or Shang set Kang's soul free which seems unlikely.
Zombie Kang doesn't need a soul, just a force that can manipulate the body like the DK. Someone suggested that Zombie Kang is a secondary sub-boss and the body is under the control of the DK.
Kang's spirit could actually be a spectre like Scorpion, seeking revenge so that it may rest it peace.

If a zombie like liu kang was a unplayable sub boos underneath the control of the dragon king, that would be awesome. A very original story idea too, i realllllllly hope they do this instead of making him a playable/selectable character.
The only way I could ever even tollerate seeing Liu again (and even that's pushing it), is if he doesn't sound like a turkey about to be slaughtered. For the love of god change his voice.
But either way, I hope he has very good reason for being around. The whole soul may finally rest if he avenges something has already been done (aka Scorpion), and that's practically sucked dry now, so I hope they give him something better and new.
