I've never played it, and I think that goes for most people who call it awful. I've heard some people say it wasn't that bad; people just jump on the bandwagon.

All I've heard about it is how bad out is. I've never played it myself, I watched some gameplay on Youtube and it looked terrible. I do like the idea of developing Tremor, though. smile

Over in the UK, its pretty much either MK: Sub Zero or MK: Advance are the worst reviewed MK games. And they talk about Superman 64 levels of badness.

MK: Special Forces, back in the day, got 6s and 7s out of 10s.

Huh...all this time, I thought Bizarro was an evil clone of Superman who says everything backwards.

Turns out he's just an ordinary British citizen.

I remember playing it because I did everything Mortal Kombat related. I saw it at the video store, rented it (this was also when I almost got hit by a car in real life mind you).

I survived that, got home and played the game till I got to the Tremor boss battle. hated it and I remember it was one of the only games I returned to the store before its rental time was over, five day rental lasted for two haha.

I wonder why, if only one character was going to be playable, they decided it had to be Jax. They basically gave him Sonya's story, with Kano being his nemesis rather than her's. And to top it off, absolutely no mention of Sonya.

It just annoys me that a game of this kind that could have featured a beautiful woman as the protagonist, ended up starring that boring prick instead. Sonya's intended design for MK:SF was just gorgeous. It is my belief that if you have to choose between a beautiful gal or a meathead as the main character, it should always be the former. Fortunately, I get to kill Jax in the core MK games.

Still, MK:SF does look fun to play.

Ugh, all the memories are coming back to me.
The game is such a tragedy. I remember reading in some gaming magazine back then that it would have Sonya and Jax as the main protagonists against the evil Black Dragon organisation. I was rather thrilled, actually. A 3D MK adventure game sounded rather promising.

Then it was released and I played it at a friend's house.

Disappointment #1: Sonya wasn't a playable character. Only Jax. At first I thought she was unlockable, but no... she was no where to be found.

Disappontment #2: The gameplay was incredibly sucky. The controls were odd, the moves were pathetic and the bosses just repeated the same sucky moves over and over and over and over again. There were no versatility what so ever and I remember getting so frustrated that I threw the controller at the TV at one point... And I have always been a good sport and rather patient when it comes to videogames.

Disappointment #3: The storyline was incredibly dull done. It was boring, predictable and just generally bad.

Disappointment #4: Tremor. Tasia and No-Face were boring both in character and design, but Tremor was the worst piece of crap I ever saw. A Lin Kuei reject who can throw stones... Oh yeah, and he can stomp on the ground too... Whoop-te-dooh...

So yeah, there you have it.

One of my big disappointments about the game we were told we were gonna get in magazines versus the one they rushed out the door when Tobias split was that the story was originally supposed to give, like, the entire SF vs. BD backstory. It was gonna start with showing us how Kano lost his eye and end all the way at the beginning of MK2 with Jax tracking Sonya to Outworld and the final boss fight supposedly being a run-in with Goro when he gets there.

Also, the whole 70's Blaxploitation theme they went with in the game was just weird.

Wasn't bad, was far from good. Really wasn't worth finishing either. And your friend is right, there's still games like Superman 64 that exist.
