By now we've all heard of how this krypt "doesn't exist" or is a glitch. I found this to be kinda fishy, so I went to a friend of mine who is a very talented hacker, game programmer, and humongous MK fan. We'll call him Foxxconn (not that you'd know him eitherway). I asked him how something like this could make it past Boon, as we all know he denies ever seeing Krypt WQ. Well, he gave me some very good insight as to what WQ may be. When a programer writes code for a file, he often times takes a small section to the file that presumably no one would ever use to experiment on. Basically this is where they find out the limitaions of what the software can and cannot do. He'll write some gibberish in that context of the game, see how it would look, move and feel to the gamer. From this little model, the programer will build the rest of the game. However, the actual work involved often is so tedious and long, that when the programer has finally finished with it, he'll just dump it out and forget the little "glitch" he created. To put it into the context of MKD, and how Boon could miss this, the programer probably built a "pseudo-krypt" where all the krypts will be, oh say WQ. All the krpyts will be... gimme a number between 1, and say, about 10,000. 456? Perfect! Ok, it seems the game scrolls well. Everything's checking out. Let's add in the real numbers and letters and call it a day. What he probably did was forget to delete the part about all the krypts being WQ when you scroll up really fast. Boon and his test crew play the gameand never really scrolling all that fast, because why scroll fast if you're not trying to reach a krypt? Gamers will scroll immediately to the one they want, a tester is gonna just see that it scrolls. So they miss the glitch that someone forgot to delete, and voila! A new mystery for that fans to unlock! Apparently this happens in games alot, citing such examples of Counterstrike: Source's "floating city" you see when you die. This may put to rest the WQ theories, but as you're about to see, my friend gave us "believers" hope in SUs, a theory which I will post in a few minutes after people have read this. Trust me, it's good, and debunks the "it was already hacked theory." Apparently, hiding things from hackers isn't so hard. But until I type that up, chew on this post for a while.

VD is the biggest idiot on these forums. your other post had absolutely 0% knowledge in it, and this one doesnt either.

I'm not the best programer in the world but I've been doing it for about 14 years. Its real easy for little things like that to happen. When your working on something it will blow your mind sometimes what can happen without you meaning it to. There have been countless times I will be stairing at something wondering how what I coded could possibly be doing what its doing. Or something will work great until you do one other thing and it all goes crazy.
Something that hard to catch could have easily sliped through. What I find hard to belive is when Boon said he had never heard of the WQ koffin. After saying his crew spends a lot of time here I find it hard to belive that he isn't lying about one thing or the other.
Bottom line could be anything. A glitch is very possible. Just as possible as it could have been done deliberatly.

This Theory is most likey true to the core as i am a programmer also i have only been doing it for about 4 years but i can tell you that when your done writing ohh lets say just a 10,000 line program things change as you go and leftover things that dont really affect anything to an important degree are to troublesome to go and hunt down.. so it is very possible that this is true. but on the other hand i would like to be part of a secret because it could have porposely been dsigned to look like a glitch and their-fore be blow off... until we know for sure------Resiak

Note to Self: Next time someone states they will be "Dropping wisdom", assume the worst.
Gotta say, I'm going with purbeast on my assessment of this thread.

This is set in place on purpose for a specific reason. What that reason is could be a couple things....
First theory is that when scrolling up it has to load each grave. It has to load how many koins, what's in it, and if it has been unlocked or not. It is possible that they put this texture in place with the WQ on it to block the data that has not been loaded yet.
Now they could have easily put anything they wanted in its place. They made this texture and placed it there... not by chance. Now the question is: Does it have relevance or are they just messing with us? I'm leaning towards messing with us.
Second theory is that it was put their purely to mess with us. It has no relevance to the game what so ever. Knowing how the engine works I know that everything in the game has a bank that it gets preloaded into. In this case it would be a section bank. I don't think that the game is having loading problems that would cause them to place the WQ texture to block something being loaded (although still very possible).

The WQ texture is most likely actualy 2 textures. One for W and one for Q. Text fonts are generaly loaded on sheets then divided into blocks for each letter and number so they can be easily writen using character strings. So you can call your text print function like say Print_Text_To_Screen("Print this text", position_x, position_y). The first would texture the koffin then apply the text characters over that as well as the coin type image. Now when adding the text for each koffin it is almost surely done with a nested loop which means the program knows what text to put down based on what row and column its at. In short they don't go through and lable each koffin they let the computer do it for them based on a small sequence they defined.
This means 2 things. One is even though the krypt don't use those letters they would be loaded almost surely as a rule so there isn't any great secret there. Two is W and Q are both outside the loop sequence that would be used to draw the koffin text. So it must be done somewhere else by the writer. If it was ment to stay that way is up for debate. Most likely it was part of an early scroll test. When they switched over draw methods they probably just forgot to swich the scroll method for the one direction and never noticed that they were using the old debug version for scrolling that one way.
All they would have to do to create that error is something like....
if scrolling right use DrawType2
if scrolling left use DrawType2
if scrolling up use DrawType2
if scrolling down use DrawType1
Thats all it would take.

It's still waste of space, they needn't have a full font set for the Krypt since they don't use W anywhere else. wow

It is a glitch. I am a hackar/programmer and these things happen. There could be many explanations why Boon left it in there. He might've kept a bit of code in and wouldn't realize people would see it.
Lets not make such a big deal about it like it is a secret. This happened exactly with MKDA and Crows thread is now 21 pages long!

They didn't know about it. Boon himself didn't program the Krypt. When I spoke with the MKD team in Chicago, they didn't know what I meant when I reffered to "The WQ koffin", so I had to explain what happens.

Your not wrong. It is more or less a waste. However fonts that size don't take up that much space and there might be complications restricing a font. It just might not seam worth it to cut out unused letters. The krypt doesn't take much compared to a full on fight with character and stage details. Your really only wasting space if you run out. They also probably ported some core code and such from the last krypt that used the full alphabet. Meaning it would be a waste of time to redo something with out a real reason to. With deadlines and all time in this case would be more important.
