I really hope MK:D better incorporates the jumping attacks than MK:DA did. Altho I really liked DA, I found myself kind of missing those jumping crossover kicks and jump-kick juggles from the days of old (oh, and the run button, sometimes)... Either way, I don't doubt for a second that MK:D will kick ass, but it would be nice to have brought back the importance of the jump attacks (which I feel was a very important strategy of the classic MK games). I am looking foreward to all the new innovations and play techniques, I'm sure they will make up for any of the missing old style play mechanics I may miss (uppercuts, running, jumping attacks)!

I could live without them. The lack of jumping attacks makes the game more realistic, although I'm not hinting in any way that the game is actually realistic. Still, the jump attacks were kind of cheap if you got cornered in past MK games. Also, how many times can a guy jump seven or eight feet into the air and flip two to three times over someone? I think you'd get tired after a while.

From what I can see in the videos, the jumping is the same exact way. There is no run button, but the games overall speed has been increased slightly. Dont expect a big difference over DA. All that has been changed in the engine is there are now breakers, Death traps, and some univeral fundamentals(like uppercuts/sweeps).

Sadly thats whats going to hurt the game the most is that they didnt do much to the fighting engine.

i honestly dont mind the engine. i like the way the mk fights go i dont really care about the fighting to to much as long as they did a little bit to it like more combos and stuff flows a little better things like that

I've always liked the cheesyness of the past MK games in general, like the exaggerated jumps. MK used to stand out from other fighting games in that the gameplay relied more on the projectiles and jump attacks than most of the others fighters out there. I really liked MK:DA, but I found that my interest in it faded quicker than for any of the previous MK games, I find myself going back and playing MK TRILOGY on the N64 the most. I think the addition of the Death Traps and Online play are going to be the 2 shining features added to the new MK game. Still, I will miss those jumps... But I'll get to have them in the Midway Arcade Treasures 2 disc when it's released!

I just wish you could be able to pull off huge combos like at least 50-100 damage not counting corner combos Umk3 is a prime example of how fun combos can be. When i was younger i mostly played mk for the fatalities and such but that gets old seeing them over and over. The great thing about a good engine is learning new high combos to slaughter your opponent.

Yes..! The combo system in UMK3 & MK TRILOGY was the best. Especially how you could start the button sequence combos by hitting your opponent with a straight-up jump kick or airial punch.

About Me

I don't want a bigger movelist Boon. I want a reason to use more than
10% of the ones you've given me. Fix MK with Move Properties.

^^I agree, I believe the demographic of those that fell in love with MK in its younger stages are now all grown up, thus we have a lot of threads of how people think MKD's fatalities, blood and fluff are disappointing. But when you think about it, they're on the same level of quality and even better than the ones we experienced when we were younger. I think most players have grown past the point where fluff will truly please them much longer, even though they won't admit it.
As for jump attacks, while I would love for some of the stuff to come back, I can see what they're trying to do. If they don't plan to bring old jump attacks back, I was really hoping they go along the lines of either more useful low jumping pokes (VF), somersault/cartwheel/etc. type attacks which would fit well into MK (DoA), or even just basic u/f+4 type launchers (Tekken). Maybe some spacing tools too. But yeah, right now the jumps are really horrible since they leave you in the air too long and since there's really not much of a reason to risk being in the air for the little reward that you may get.
Oh yeah, I heard from JRF the uppercuts that were brought back anti-air like 100% no matter what angle the jump comes in at, so even a lesser reason to jump.
