It's probably a transition from MKDA to MK6. I have a feeling that new/returning characters in MKDR will also make an appearance in MK6. Anything could go in terms of what MKDR is about.

Sure, that was from Lao fighting Kahn in MK3. But it really isn't known (is it?) who won MK3.

I kind of have an erie feeling that MK:DR is going to have a pretty mucked up story, so it probably won't matter in the long run.
