You mean martial artists like Cung Le, Frank Shamrock, Ernesto Hoost, etc.? Well... I'm not to hot on that idea cause... NO! WAIT! Let me go back on that for a sec! A scenario like Frank Shamrock looking for better competition anfter domination UFC and then Rayden showing up saying, "So Frank. You wanna beat up on some higher calibur competition?" That would be interesting! However I'm not sure he'd or anyone else would fit into the MK universe.

But since every game has to have a scrub character, I guess throwing in an actual fighter/martial artist wouldn't be the end of the series.

Originally, MK1 was going to be based around Jean Claude Van Dam. Midway and Mr. Dam had a falling out, and Midway decided to make it a bloody fighting game.

It's true, in the beginning, John Tobias and Ed Boon were going to make a game starring Van Damme. That obviously never happened, but MK was inspired by many other movies, and Enter the Dragon, which was a Bruce Lee film, was one of them. And if you think about it, the first Mortal Kombat has a lot of similarity with Enter the Dragon. Liu Kang was originally going to be a traditional bald headed shaolin monk with a longer name, but he ended up resembling Bruce Lee, which the creators liked. Of course MKII came along and they gave Liu Kang his own look. Johnny Cage from MK1 seems to be a spoof of Van Damme's character in the movie, Bloodsport. I mean he's wearing those shorts like Van Damme was in the movie, and he has the groan punch which Van Damme also did in the movie. But yeah, I've always been a huge fan of Bruce Lee. He was the man! As a fan, yeah, I'd love the ability to use Bruce Lee in a MK game! However, I think MK has (or at least, HAD) it's own Bruce Lee, and that is Liu Kang. I'm glad Liu Kang's spirit will return to MK Deception, though I would prefer to have the man himself back. I guess he has become a legend, like Bruce Lee, and just the same, his spirit lives on. wink

The only Hollywood star MK needs is Johnny Cage.
Long Live Johnny Cage.
