It's happened to all of us, I'm sure. We spend time trying to get good at a game and learn all the techniques, studying multiple characters and trying to get all the moves down -- then we play against someone and they pretty much do one move over and over again... and BEAT us. Well, it happens to me anyway. Happened last night, in fact. I'm fighting a kid in MK:D and using lots of different people, and winning at first. But then after a few matches, he only uses Sub Zero, and just throws like crazy. I mean, he DID do other moves, but he kept relying on that thow. Even after a freeze, he wouldn't bother with a combo, he would just throw. That was annoying. But what got me more annoyed was that I KEPT FALLING FOR IT. The way I see it, there is no taboo with throws -- if it's in the game, then it's fair to use. It is just a matter of knowing how to counter the technique. So I want to learn how to counter these types of players better.
I know that they can't throw you if you're crouching, but I hated having to resort to a crouch immediately after being knocked down (since I KNEW the guy was gonna come right up to me for a throw). Are there any good "wake-up" attacks in this game? Like, good moves to use right as you're getting back up, before they have a chance to throw? And what are just some general tactics to use when you start to sense an especially throw-happy opponent?

yeah i feel ya. the throws are really obnoxious in this game, especially because they can't be blocked.

I throw back. You can tell that throw happy online players don't know sh*t about how Deception works. To me you are throw happy if you throw more than 3 times in 1 round. When that happens I counter attack( I would say what I do but that would take my advanage away wouldn't it? :.P) after I do I will throw every chance I get which it most of the time successful since they dont even know how to even dodge a throw. losers. Also I never fight throw whores twice or even ever again . One more thing. If MK7 is going to be online( 99.9% chance) MK7 will need a reverseal system badly to stop this throw whore crap. Also a agressor like meter to stop special movers from only doing their special moves from far way or anyways, but thats another thread. Laterzzzzzzzz

hmmm...sounds familiar, that was probably me lol..no i doubt it
i don't use sub zero very often
i had that happen to me last night also and i got my ass kicked.
some kid kept using raiden, he would teleport behind me and throw and he would do that over and over and over, it was all he did. the entire two matches i played against him. I couldn't even get away from it.
that's being cheap at its best. just don't play people like that, it's not fun, there is no strategy
i do a lot of throws sometimes, not to be cheap or anything, but it gets a distance between my fighter and my opponent's fighters, not to mention it does a decent amount of damage, more so than an uppercut. plus with sub-zero if you freeze a guy you won't be able to pull off combos due to the breakers that are sure to follow after subbie throws his first punch or kick. so the best way to get the most damage at that point is to throw. it's a great tool, it can really turn the tides of a match, especially when your opponent is block happy or your opponent is better than you.
anyway getting away from a "thrower" is difficult. to avoid being thrown you have to keep your distance and learn to fight from a distance. or you can side step a lot if you are in close kombat. while in close kombat against a thrower crouch and sweep then dash back away. if you can't sweep him during a crouch then after he attempts to throw either uppercut or give him a taste of his own medicine and throw him
it's not easy, but it is a part of the game as you said, so just keep finding different ways to adapt to the move. you will notice a pattern in most "throwers" so you should know when to expect it and you will be prepared to retaliate.
hope this helps.

Yes, there is a definite difference between a consciensious throw user and an outright Throw-Ho. I'd like to think I'm the former. Like I'll defintely throw if the opportunity presents itself. And with Mileena, I'll always go in for a throw after hitting a teleport kick (it's almost a guaranteed hit). But I think the throw is best used when mixing up your attacks. It's also handy for finishing matches, because when someone is about to die they will sometimes block excessively, which is the perfect time to go in for a throw.
But the Throw-Ho lacks art, lacks finesse, and is probably the same type of player that uses up all their breakers in the first 8 seconds of the match. So I must perfect these anti-throw techniques, lest I be condemnded to a fate worse than pwn4g3. Thanks for the tips and level-headed discussion, guys! Carry on!

Thanks to Ed Boon firing the one person who could have fixed the flawed gameplay into something better...there are no wakeup moves in Deception.
Anyways, you see a throw coming...DUCK, then destroy.

don't worry about it
they can know that we are on to them
They can know what we do to prevent that cheesy type of play, because they can't stop us from stopping them
Even if they know that we can dodge their throws it won't matter because there is no way for them to adapt to our counter-attacks or dodges. You can only throw one way, but the ways in which you can stop a throw are plentiful :)

Yes , but I play Deception on PS2. I have a 5 star connection when I am playing. Lots of the times double hits do happen during fighting do to lag( I still think online fighting is great though) . To me the most noticeable thing is that sometimes you can be standing about 2 characters away and you can still get hit the same with throwing. Hell I'll admit that lag sometimes had to do with a small share of my victories. Throwing can be a serious issue sometimes. That is all I am trying to say. I would like to take Xbox Live's servers for a spin in Deception :.\. don't get me wrong I am happy with Deception's gamespy servers and the gameplay experiance .
