What to do with Liu Kang in city in Outworld.

Liu Kang paces back and forth in the city that Hotaru went to rescue from the Tarkatan Hordes. When I try to talk to him he says, "I will talk to you later my friend." When I try to hit him he says, "I am very skilled in the art of Kombat, don't tempt me." Anyone know what to do to get more out of him?

I don't know if it had to do with anything, but it was sometime after I talked with Tanya and she was looking for a cave so she could ambush/kill Liu Kang. And I can't remember if I had already found the cave or not, but when I talked to him he said something like "Yes, I am Liu Kang" and gave me some koins. This could be an alternate reward for Tanya's request because I couldn't find her again to give her the map to the cave she was looking for.
