Does anybody really know? Please don't tell me:

"It was meant for a stage fatality, but they didn't have time for it so they left the stance in there". Yeah right! Everything in MK has had a purpose. If this was the case, the fatality stance would have been removed.

or

"When you go into that stance it allows you to perform a fatality a little more easily"! Again, yeah right!!! You can perform a fatality without going into that stance (you can do it, the CPU does it), and sometimes it doesn't even "paralyze" your fighter. You still have mobility (sometimes).

So.....what's it for?

It's meant to make fatalities easier, by switching to this stance your character will not move around since the fatalities require you to press up, down, side, etc. This is an advantage over trying fatalites in normal stances since the character moves around and may accidently hit the opponent rather than pull off the last step in the fatality.

But unlike previous MKs, you can perform the fatalities in MKDA anywhere on screen!! And like I said earlier, sometimes the fatality stance doesn't completely immobilize you. You can still acidentally hit an opponent. The fatality stance is redundant if this was the reason.
