Does anybody really know? Please don't tell me:
"It was meant for a stage fatality, but they didn't have time for it so they left the stance in there". Yeah right! Everything in MK has had a purpose. If this was the case, the fatality stance would have been removed.
or
"When you go into that stance it allows you to perform a fatality a little more easily"! Again, yeah right!!! You can perform a fatality without going into that stance (you can do it, the CPU does it), and sometimes it doesn't even "paralyze" your fighter. You still have mobility (sometimes).
So.....what's it for?
