I know I'm the newbiest of newbs, but I'm outta the loop here, help me out!
Everyone keeps complaining about throws and cheap shots. What's up with that? I have the hardest time getting almost any throws at all in. Those challenges where you have to beat them using nothing but throws...takes me 10 tries to do it. you guys must do it in record time.
what's the trick? how are throws being used so cheaply?

Throws are cheap when people abuse them, i.e. do NOTHING but throw. But most people who whine about 'cheap throwers' are the ones who spend the entire match with their finger on the block button and get pissy when the throw breaks through the block. Blocks get through throws, which is what pisses most people off.
Unfortunately most people just aren't skilled enough at the game to realize how easy it is to avoid Throws. Just duck out of the way, and even easier, just time it and tap throw when the opponent begins their throw, and the two throws will cancel each other out. But most people would rather just complain about it.
Throws aren't cheap at all....to a degree. Smoke's throw, I will agree, is very cheap. It stuns you for more than 5 seconds, giving plenty of time for you to get moved into a death trap or set up...and when you play against a noob smoke player they typically switch to smoke immediately and just spend the entire match trying to use the throw on you, so they can you set you up for free high hitting combos.

That's only as cheap as other "set-up" attacks, like Scorp's spear,, Sub-Zero's freeze, etc...
Smoob's set up is the throw.

I think the throws work pretty well. I just wish you had the option to escape any throw instead of just a select few that you can use the breaker on.
I love how they made the throw work as juggle set ups and stuns.
It's been done before, but It really shines in MKD IMO.
I think that's one of the best game play ideas they had.
I like the style they gave to a lot of the throws in MKD.
I hope for MK7 they stay on that path and add more realistic and complex looking throws specifically like the ones in Tao Feng, VF4E and DOA3.
And Please Boon, give the fighters more than 1 throw!!!
Even street fighter 2 has at least 2 throws per fighter......come on now.
