I'm not asking who's going to kill he Dragon King, but who has already.

Back when DK was still alive and kicking, he was ruler of Outworld and had an undefeatable army under his command. But then suddenly, something happended, his army got mummified and a few priests got to take care of a Dragon embryo.

So what happened? Did a powerful warrior come along and defeat the DK ,causing his army to freeze because they were suddenly leaderless?

If I had to guess who defeated him, I'd said Shao Kahn or perhaps one of the elder Gods.

Waddaya'll think?
I think i read somewhere that he just died off old age, and his army too. they natually died b/c remebr they were undefeatable. but then they muffied the corpse, so they could become alive again someday. and he would rise in ? years again.

something like that i read somewhere i think the gamefaqs.

but if somene could help us or add, then that would be cool.

Heres the story of the Dragon King:

Dragon King – The Dragon King was an ancient ruler of Outworld before Shao Kahn's rise to power. He had formed the greatest army that realm had ever known. An army so powerful that it had never lost a battle. In an attempt to gain immortality and rule Outworld forever, The Dragon King commanded his holy men to hatch the last known Great Dragon egg. Legends told that drinking the blood of a newborn dragon would bring eternal life only if the dragon was slain moments after hatching. Unfortunately, the Dragon King died prematurely. His holy men loyally continued to incubate the egg with the intent of eventually reviving the dead king with the dragon blood.

His army allowed themselves to be ritualistically slain and were buried in the pyramid along with their sovereign to be resurrected as well some time in the future. Generations of the Dragon King's holy men had been incubating the egg in secret ever since. As the prophecy had been told through the ages ... "Upon the birth of the last Great Dragon will the Dragon King return." Reptile tracked Cyrax and Nitara to the Lava Shrine as the vampire searched for the orb which bound her to Outworld. He arrived too late to exact his revenge on the pair. Suddenly an expectant hush filled the chamber as energy cascaded around what appeared to be a dragon embryo.

The tiny dragon stretched and the egg cracked. A beam of energy ripped out from inside and lanced into Reptile. His world was filled with roaring power as his squamous body was twisted and transformed. The ancient prophecy had been fulfilled: the Dragon King had returned.

Doombringer, thnx, I didn't know that. Cool.

mangatropi, hmm, well, it kinda reminds me of the question: "what came first: the chicken or the egg?" So I don't think we'll ever find out.

Well keeping in mind i believe Reptile is now the Dragon King in some form or another, I believe his entrance into the chamber before the hatching of the egg and all the events (from MKI/II-Deception) leading to where he was when the egg hatched was prophesized from the begining. The way I see it, Reptile was always destined to be the Dragon King. He was the reptilian vessel needed to become the DK. So when Reptile entered the Dragon Egg Chamber, the egg itself sensed it and hatched and as prophesized bestowed all of its power in to Reptile becoming the Dragon King...
So in other words, the egg hatched itself due to prophecy, and im assuming it originated from a mommy Great Dragon from centuries back? In the MK universe, Dragons: Were an ancient race of creatures with connections to many realms, including Earth Realm and Edenia. They pervaded many cultures, especially Outworld, and numerous legends and myths were told about them. The symbol of the Mortal Kombat was a dragon, even before Shang Tsung corrupted it a thousand years ago. The Dragon Symbol may have been connected to the ancient Great Dragons of Outworld.
Thats how I see it.

Couldn't it have been King Jerrod?

this is really complete speculation but could the original dragon king have been of the same species that Reptile is the last living survivor of?

I was thinking the same thing, but I dont know. It would take out all the regalness, fear, power, and majesty in my eyes, that comes with DK if hes merely a beefed up Raptor from Zaterra.

If Jerrod was the Dragon King then the story would've said that by now. Plus, Jerrod was killed by Shao Kahn himself, no? DK died of natural causes.
