I mean how is it different to the button link combos that were used in MK3. A string of buttons are used to chain a combo both the same right? I cant really see anything wrong with the 'dial a combo system' beacuse i dont see how it differs to the button link combos used in previous editions of MK (except MK:DA).
Most people who complain about Mortal Kombat's current fighting system and want us to go back to the old ones, are the guys who can't play nor remember all the moves. MK improved from background pictures to and interactive arenas and the gameplay has improved from "button-smashing" to "three-fighting styles per character" so lets keep our cool because we don't know if it's little kids writing these things.

Dial-A-Combos require no skill and are completely scrubby. Man, get with the times. They weren't liked in 1995 and they're not liked now.

I am not keen on the combo for a couple of reasons.
First, I don;t have the memory capacity to rememeber the combos. Like phone numbers, if I don;t use them on a daily basis, I will forget them. So it will take me longer to learn the combos than someone else. I know I can look them up, but it has to be a an experience thing for me. Maybe I should print out the combos and have them right infront of me while I play.
Second, For the person that does not play the game all the time, like me, I don;t get as much practice on the combos.
They are a little easier to do in MKD than MKDA and I enjoy doing them when I can. It just takes me a little longer. Plus I am playing Konquest with out any guides or walkthrus. so that takes up my time for now.

I like the combo system from MK3-MKT and MK: DA to Deception . When it came to the 2-D MKs the damage they would do were medium. They weren't hard to pull off. Also like the run button it sped up the fighters and gave the aggressors something to work with. MK: DA and Decepetion's are a diff story. The combos in DA and Decection can cause considerable damage if the user knows what he is doing ,same with Deception. I like DA and Deception fighting system, but now I know the MK team would tone down with the lenghtly combos. Like the max combo should be like 5 hits. I like doing long combos but I like more of that attacking up and close.I like to use high and low attacks in Deadly Alliance and Deception. Also since to me MK DA is faster( best MK game to me) than Deception in terms of attack recovery Deception's combos are too common.I like the idea of them becoming more inportant for future MK games. In all I like it, but I think it is time to let combos play a lesser role in winning a fight to me.

There are only 3 types of combos.
1) Chain - linked attacks in a set order
2) Juggle - bouncing the player in the air
3) 2 in 1 - canceling out of one move with another to score more hits.
I think its fine and fits the game. They are just chain combos. The only differences is the timing isn't as strict as say Tekken which had overly picky timing. As long as you hit the button your good. If people dislike the ease of use and that they are hard to screw up, then all I have to say is MK aint VF. It never has been and shouldn't be. You will just have to be better at anticipation than your opponent and not comboing.

I agree that the combos are alot easier. But for the casual user, there is a significant disadvantage. Plus if I want to have a friend over to kick his ass, I have to hold back on the combos. It just take away from the quick pick up of a game.
I think special moves should get more of a focus. The issue is, how do you expand on that. Maybe take an attack button and make it a special move button. But you would have to perform the correct "joystick" movement to pull it off.
Short joystick moves would be quicker and easier to learn than the button combos. It would level things out more.

Look at the combo system in MKD and look at the combo system in MK4.
Which allowed for more variation and experimentation during battle?
I rest my case.

A player who dosn't play much is suposed to be at a disadvantage. Why reward someone for not playing?
I would like to see specal moves get more attention so that they are more combo friendly. Some characters like LiMei can work them in like crazy, but most they are for one lucky hit. I would also like to have a real jump game. Jumps are usless for comboing. We could at the very least have a pop up jump attack or 2.

I agree about the disadvantage. But it is a HUGE disadvantage. The issue is not a reward for someone for playing more. It is more for a quick pick up game. Gettting someone introduced to it.
Especially playing someone who has never played it or any MK game. You have got to give them some kind of chance without the experienced player holding back.
Like Halo you can pick it up pretty quickly. Even under pressure.
I want to introduce my friends to playing and "Get our Fight On." I want to show them some basics and let them figure it out in Kombat. Getting those combos down takes awhile. Then what are they going to do, pause the game every 10 seconds to check the moves? Kind of ruins it.
What do you think of the Special Move button?

getting the combos down doesnt take a while at all. I can chose any character online hit start look at a combo and use it right as the match starts. specials are harder to figure out. You can get pumbled a lot before you get something out.

Again combos play a large role in MK: DA and Deception. It takes a while before you can learn the more damaging ones. I don' t think a few seconds before a match can help you learn all that you can about a character against a person who is extremly good with one character(s). If anything specials are the easiest to remember , the 3 style combo branch is another thing. Also keep in mind that you can get creative with these combos. I won't say how, but if you know a characters combos, you can pull off crazy combos. In all if you dont know a characters combos against an online oppentant your pretty much screwed against a medium skilled player.

Why would you not say how?
