Why does people want MK6 to be another Soul Calibur???

posted02/03/2004 03:54 PM (UTC)bybefore anything else is said i wanna say that im a big fan of the soul calibur series but im a bigger fan of MK... im a fan of both because of boths unique fighting styles... sure Soul Calibur is beautiful all the way around and is almost flawless, but it bothers me that a majority of the people want the Mk series to play exactly like the Soul Calibur series starting with 6... i really, really dont want this to happen... MK should go its own route and Soul Calibur its own... when u think about it though the MK characters r not the type of fighters that r in Soul Calibur... let me explain that... in soul calibur u ALWAYS fight with a weapon, where as MK u can chose to use a weapon or not... and from what MKDA showed us, in the MK series now u can use multiple types of martial arts where as Soul Calibur does not... so y want an awesome franchise to be like another franchise when there noted for having there own distinct styles???
so what is ur guys opinion???

Because in some aspects Soul Calibur feels so much more like a MK than MK:DA. MK:DA plays w/ martial arts and stuff... but it plays WAAAAAAAY differently than any MK ever... While SC actually could have easily been a MK sequel.
Also, the character style, the SC characters (Not al, but most) look more like at "home" in mortal kombat than a Vampire, or a blind samurai...

maybe because people want mk6 to be an absolute piece of shit like soul caliber (sorta seems that way, when peeps want stryker, smoke and baraka to be in it and some of the classic characters gone like johnny cage, raiden and sonya) i sincerily think mk:da was the best, preferably because of the martial arts, as the first mk made it seem like martial arts was needed, and though i never played soul caliber, nor do i want to, i think ed boon and who ever is besides him, should just make the game, as they see fit, and not listen to the fans, all the other mk's were huge sucess's, minus the mk3-mkt time, but all the rest made huge sucess and i dont think they were fan made (i mean that as, ed boon and john tobias didnt listen to the fans while making the games) and i think they should do the same for mk6, and not tell anyone about what is going to be of it, so it can be a surprise to the players so they'd be like "wow, i didnt expect that" because remember, even though mk:da was very successful, everyone already knew about everything in the game before the game was ever released
and granted, i know everybody has there own opinion, but not everyone shares the same

well, people are saying mkda doesnt have the mk feel. Huh? Then what feel does it have. Second, soul calibur has nothing in common with mk. Im sorry. I cant even elaborate any further because everything is different period. I dont know, in my opinion if you really thought soul calibur was a better game, i suggest you become a strict fan of that series, because if you guys are hungry for conformations, heres one confirmation for every future mk game: It wont be like MK Gold or anything before. So before you jump on the next game or the coolest characters that arent even confirmed like smoke or baraka(who wouldnt want him back), you need to think that the 10% of digrunteled former mk players shouldn't make the rest of us hear soul caliber soul caliber soul caliber all the time. Why dont you just put soul calibur in youre car cd tray and let it play just so that you know it works for heavens sakes. rights of the minority protected, while the majority rule. Galeon is right. Here is another suggestion, dont even bother playing mk6, itll feel even "weirder" than before.

Its because they don't know what a real game is. MK:DA was great and i disliked soul caliber greatly. Seriously copying a different game is NOT the way to go.

I agree with Ghaleon. Why, in the world should MK compromize it's greatness, by ripping off (yeah, I said it--ripping off) another game's fighting style. I think that a lot of us have forgotten that MK is about hand to hand kombat--not sword fihting. When weapons were first introduced, in MK4, I thought it was the most creative thing that I had ever seen in a fighting game...very unigue, and original. But, now, I think that they should stop trying to evolve it, before it goes too far. I would personally like to see the system return to it's original roots (where you had to enter botton combinations for the fighter to DRAW thier weapon), or just throw it out, completely.

i think mk shouldn't rip off ANY fighting game, because it is so much different than the other 3d fighting games (virtua fighter 4, tekken 4, soul calibur 2, DOA 3, etc.) . Mk should be MK, that is all.

How is MK6 going to copy SC2?
I'm thinking that MK6 should have a lot more obvious things that fighting games need.
A lot of attacks, easy and quick movement, reversals, a ton of things like that.
That doesn't mean that they are copying SC, it just means that the game is being made more realistic.
Just so happens that a lot of the obvious things that belong in a fighting game have already been done by other games.
It's not copying really, its more like evolution.
A logical series of improvements.
Just because people want complex reversals, parries, or running, doesnt mean that they want the game to be a copy of VF4, SC2, or Tekken4.
I think you get what I mean, they are just basic things that are used in real life, but are missing in MKDA.
Thats all.
The more realistic MK gets the more I will like it.

I must ask.
Where did you get this from?
Maybe I haven't noticed, but I thought from reading the stickies in the MKDA forum, that people are pushing for MKDA to evolve into something better?
Either way, that's what I'm hoping for. I feel MK is going down its own path, and that is a good thing. On occasion there will be common elements with other fighting games, but each one has something that makes the element different from another.

Soul Calibur was shit?

Baraka and Smoke were large hits with fans, and I can see why. As for Stryker, I can't think of more than 2 people on this site who actually like him, and want him back.
Classic Characters gone like Cage, Raiden and Sonya?
For Cage, yeah I can see where they're coming from. His storyline is STALE, its the same, and it has no meaning, in that he wasn't happy with his movie, so he joined the fighters in MKDA???
For Sonya, her storyline with the special forces is getting a little old, and a bit lame as well. No matter how much I like her, it may be time for them to go.
As for Raiden. Who the hell is saying he shouldn't come back???
As far as I'm aware, people don't want MK6 to be a piece of shit. Sure you get some people post the infamous "PLEASE ADD ALL FINISHERS IN!", but that isn't everybody.
Particularly in the DA discussion, the sticky threads are well worth a read, about how DA could be made better, and its faults.

MK6 needs to be its own game. End of story.

How many game play elements does MKDA have that are original?
Not counting fatalities and mini games.
Those are not game play elements. They are just extras.
---------------------------------------------
The unbreakable combos. (that's semi original)
hand and weapon fighting.
The button lay out.
Weapon stab, and Bleeding to death.
I can't think of any other things that haven't been done before.
What else?
-----------------------------------------------
What has been done before.
Multiple styles
Projectiles
reversals
taunts
power-ups
quick roll
quick wall roll
What else?
-----------------------------------------------
Aside form visual aspects MK is not as original as people seem to think.
You need to copy some stuff, because almost everything has already been done.
The only difference would be execution of those moves, and how they look.
That's my opinion.
