Why is "Ben's" real name such a secret?

Okay, most of us probably remember that a couple of weeks ago, the webmaster of that Swiss MK site mentioned that in his interview with John Vogel, John told him that the new martial arts champ character was not named Ben and that he didn't know why Herman Sanchez had called him by that name in a previous interview. John said that he could not yet reveal the true name of our favorite Ken lookalike. My question is: Why are they keeping this guy's name under wraps? We know the names of several other new characters--Kira, Dairou, Hotaru, Shujinko, Ashrah, et cetera. Is this guy's real name that big a deal compared to those others? And we've already seen numerous screenshots of both his costumes, and I would think that his in-game appearance should be a bigger secret than his name. All I can say is that this guy better have the coolest name ever to warrant such secrecy.

...Unless that really _is_ Street Fighter's Ken we're seeing in these screenshots. But I think news would have already leaked out of a deal between Midway and Capcom to allow the use of the character if that were the case.

That's a dumb theory... a reeeal dumb theory. Ken has absolutely nothing to do with MK, anyway.

IF you read that whole post carefully, the poster added that some magazine has/would have the rights to reveal his name, therefore he couldn't tell us that the other time.

You do understand that that last sentence of mine which you quoted implies that I don't actually believe it's the real Ken, right? I certainly hope it isn't really Ken--that would be very lame. All I meant to say was that it would explain why they're so secretive about "Ben's" real name. But even I don't think it's the case. Let Street Fighter and MK stay in their own worlds.

Yeah, I remember that part. Vogel said that he couldn't say what the real name was because it's the kind of thing that magazines make deals for to get exclusives on. But I'm puzzled as to why this tiny piece of information--the name of a character who's already been shown in many screenshots--is considered such a valued secret by the MK design team. It's just a string of letters. When it's revealed, it'll be nothing like the surprise we got a few days ago when we saw screenshots of Jade. Oh, well. I guess when you have all the answers, as the MK team does, you can make any piece of info you choose into a coveted secret. The fact that I'm obsessed with this question proves that.

Well if his name was really Ben i hope he has a cool last name....johnny didnt really sound cool but when you add the cage it sounds fantastic.

The character now known only as Ben Kobra reminds me of the rumored Nimbus Terrauffauxx from MK1. Nimbus was supposed to be a kickboxer who wore gloves during battle, etc. Ben kind of reminds me of him a little.

I think his name will be Cobra in the end considering all the cobra signs on his outfit.

What about that character "24"? Boon or somone mentioned him in an interview or somthing. A while back.

A pretty shitty deception in my opinion

Actually i could care less what "Ben's" name is,so far he seems like a character mixed together with not only MKDA elements but idea's from other fighting games aswell, just to have a new character.What we have seen of him is very generic and plain and stereotypical of the karate guy, hopefull he plays well cuz when it comes to his looks and over all appeal im dissatisfied. But maybe thats just mewow

You're all wrong! Ben's real name is actually Kung Pow! That's right! Interplay and Midway have joined forces, and as a result, Kung Pow from Clayfighter 63 and a Third is a playable character in MKD!

OK, that was just a joke, but seriously, it's not that big a deal. He only couldn't reveal the name because someone else had the rights to know first. Just wait for the damn game to come out, people! It's only 3 months away (4 if live in Europe).

He's the secret love child of Ken and Jin Kazama. At least that's what he looks like with his outfits.

Being serious for a minute, I just think they haven't yet decided the final name for this loser.
