Ok here's what I mean (last sentence)
"The Chess Kombat mixes the idea of board game strategy and head-to-head fighting. Although we call it Chess Kombat it's definitely not the official rules of chess it's much simpler and more immediate to pickup and play. Certain squares will have power-ups; other ones will have hidden offensive elements. Depending on which pieces are fighting, one character might have less health at the beginning of the single round fight to even things up. Plus the board game backgrounds themselves will be familiar to many longtime fans."

hey thats an awesome find! Thats really cool of midway to do...although it might make us wish those stages were rather used in the 3-d realm of fighting.
But at least it sounds like some of the classic stages are returning!

Could it somehow include the original "Warriors Shrine" many here have asked for?
You are right, people would want them in normal story/arcade modes as well.

maybe not the warrior shrine due to these reasons...
A. It might be a little confusing because the characters in the chess game appear to be stationary (from the screenshots) and the warriors in the shrine are stationary as well...it might make characters not so distinguishable
B. MKI MKII and MK3 are coming to the PS2 and XBOX and Gamecube via Midway Arcade treasures II and the stages WILL be there, in these games...including warrior shrine
My guess is that midway will use stages that were either concepts, or fan favorites that would work in the whole chess game.
