In the Jax improvement thread I suggested Jax should turn evil which got me thinking how and why.
What if the Dragon King has the ability to corrupt people? Like he can see into a person's soul and if he finds any evil or darkness they have, he exploits it and uses it to corrupt them. (like in Dragonball Z, Babidi took over Vegeta's mind by sensing the evil in his heart)

For Jax, maybe deep down Jax resents Sonya's recent and sudden promotion to General a little? He's outranked her for years and all of a sudden she's his superior? And maybe he's a little tired of following her around into these fights? So maybe the Dragon King saw this in Jax and exploited it, using that bit of jealousy and resentment to turn Jax evil.
This would not only give Jax a new twist, but provide an interesting conflict for Sonya. Since the only thing she fears is loss, what would she do if her best friend turned against her? Would she kill Jax? Could she bring herself to do it?

It also works on other characters. It's been suggested that maybe he's trying to reawaken the darkness in Kitana and turn her evil again. Maybe this is why he's keeping Kitana alive and imprisoned. Will she be able to resist his influence or will she go back to the way she was?
This also adds a little to Jade and Sindel's stories. Not only are they trying to rescue Kitana, now they have a time limit. Now they have to find her before the Dragon King corrupts her.

Maybe that's what he's doing to all the imprisoned characters? Is he trying to corrupt Fujin? Stryker? Was he trying to turn Jade evil before she escaped?
Perhaps thats what Drahmin, Jarek and Reiko are doing in the prison. Maybe, although they are evil characters, they don't want to be the Dragon King's slaves and he's trying to break their wills too?

The rumors that Raiden may be evil now. Maybe after Raiden unleashed his god essence, which had no effect, the Dragon King saw something in Raiden that was dark and evil. And he used it to corrupt the Thunder God?
If Liu Kang is evil. Again, maybe the Dragon King saw something in Liu Kang's soul that was impure and used it to corrupt him?
Again with Li Mei.
And maybe before Deception is over, another good guy will be corrupted by the Dragon King.

I think it adds a new twist on some of the good guys who before were always seen as pure good. And it provides the good guys who manage to resist the Dragon King some new conflicts when they're forced to fight some of their old allies.
Maybe some will break free and survive, others might not be so lucky...
