Maybe I haven't kept up with my MK news, but was Li Mei actually confirmed?
If so... I'm dissapointed that she's coming back(I dunno why, but when I see her all that comes to mind is "DOA-like filler.") It won't kill me to have her back, but to me...she's "eh." Oh, and Bo Rai Cho I suppose...though the idea of having a human master(as opposed to Rayden) is pretty good for the storyline, though I think the character himself could of been better thought out.

Most definitely Baraka. It's the same equation every time we see him: Ugly + generic story = Boring. At first I was inclined to say Tanya, but Tanya has only been in one game, and never really got the chance to become anything other than a MK4 screw-up. She may actually be okay this game.

On the other hand, Baraka has been revived three times, and each time nothing changes. He's still the uninteresting mutant who is serving whoever is convienient to the story. If I want a character with no personality, perhaps I'll give him a second glance.

Excuse me, but how do you get to know Baraka's story in Deception? I call it prejudgement, unless you're a psychic or something... He's been revived three times??? It's news to me. MKT (well, everyone was in it), MK Gold (a Dreamcast-exclusive game many fans didn't have the chance to play) and...?

You could say that about any character. If meat was in the game, no one would have the right to bash him because "we just don't know what he'll be like."

But your right. I have no idea what his story is. But this is what I do know. He's been revived in MKGold and MK Trilogy, both times he had a weak position in the plot. His character design has been really uninteresting for God knows how long, and it did bother me a bit that at distance he looked like he was wearing a wife-beater. As far as I know, He has never done anything more significant than serve whomever the primary villain for each with his in-game apperances, and his story doesn't branch off to any character other than the fact that he used to pork Mileena.

But he may have signicantly improved this game, and he make actually have persona accompaning him. But most importantly, he may be interesting. If this is case, I assure you that I will hate him no longer. I give you my word on that.

EDIT: his third revival was MKD itself.

Baraka died 3 times and was revived? I dont remember that, how did he die and when did this happen? The only way i see it is that hes just "back" in MKD.

But anyway, i'm dissapointed of li meis return. I think shes horrible, and now theres 3 girls that all wear people. Her story wasnt good either.

Its even more dissapointing to me that liu kang returned. He recently died in MKDA, now hes back all of a sudden? wtf? He shouldve stayed dead and never return IMO, zombie or no zombie, i never want him to return again. But looks like he is.

You can't have 24 heroes with leading roles. Every story needs characters with supporting roles. As much as I like him Baraka will never be the next Liu Kang or Kitana. I could care less about it.
The fans like him because he's a wicked and sadistic son of a b... ummm, mutant. His moves are good and so on. He should be even better with his three fighting styles in Deception. Whatever his new story is he's a wanted addition to the roster.

First of all, by "revived" I mean "brought back into the game. I have no idea if his MK4 death was official or not.

But back to the topic, I matters not if he's a significant role. Not every character can be in the limelight. Yet that doesn't excuse the fact that his story didn't evolve. Same old bread and butter for Baraka's past appearances. Still, every character does need a good character design. Nobody gets exempt from that. And if they don't have one, they better compensate elsewhere. Li Mei would be a good example of this(storywise).

Barakas MKG ending wasnt canon. Btw, even though he is brought back, i can name tons of others that have been brought back to. Baraka hasnt really officially died yet like some has, therefore i think its ok if he's brought back or returning in an MK game. To be honest, i wouldnt consider it being brought back. I would call it "making a return" because thats what hes doing. Hes making another debut in an MK game.

His story does need improvement though, and i want to see him do things for his own good and not anybody else. I would like to see him and mileena work together, or perhaps he could side with the DK, and then decieve him by killing him. Baraka has an army of nomads, he should put it to good use. Though, i think baraka would make an awesome henchman, hes one of the most bad ass MK villians ever. I'm overjoyed of his return.

But IMO, instead of bringing back Li Mei, they couldve put in another classic character, or perhaps a new one. They couldve even brought back kitana, but they decide to put li mei in out of everyone else. *Sigh*, but it does get worst, because liu kang is returning which is a craptastic idea IMO.

Apart from that, everything is awesome. All my favourite characters are back, so those 2 dont really concern me anymore.

- Baraka
- Smoke
- Noob Saibot
- Kabal

And fujin might even return to. What a relief.smile

Good god. And I thought people hated the Oni. I had no clue Bo' Rai Cho was despised so much. I think I'm the only person who likes him...I figured it was about time we had a wizened master-type figure in the series, and I love drunken fighting... I wonder who fans hate more...him or Stryker...

I also love Baraka. Granted, he looks cool, but it's true that he had no real story. When you think about it, Neither did Reptile - he had the practically the same goals through all the MK games: get back to his people. That was starting to bother me, but now...well, I hope they can do something for ol' razor-face. Angry, ugly psychotics need a story too...

Anyway, Here are the people I'd rather not have back:

Li Mei: Never liked her, never will. It would be acceptable if she was playable as a mummified soldier with a new movelist.

Tanya: Although I want to give her a chance, I just honestly feel that her place is better filled with a qualified success like Fujin.

Liu Kang: I refuse to believe he's coming back. Ever. After making such a bold move and killing him off, reviving him - just like they did with Kano, Mileena, and Cage - would kill any credibility they have, in my eyes.

Liu Kang is climbing up the rankings, past TAnya into 3rd place.

Li Mei and Bo Rai Cho are still battling it out for the coveted No. 1 spot!
