Worth buying?

I bought MK9 on the day of release and this one earlier this week. Actually I've been spending more time with MKvsDC than MK9. They're completely differently paced / styles. If you want fast and furious gameplay only, stick with MK9 but if you want or like a little bit more deliberate gameplay then this is pretty fun. Also it helps if you're a fan of DC cannon.
The biggest downside is this doesn't have a Krypt of unlockable content, and online is pretty minimal (usually rooms I've seen have only about 30 people, some with over 1000 games under their belt which is a little daunting for new players like me).
I also find MKvsDC to be a lot easier than MK9 in terms of boss fights and story mode. If you don't have much patience and just want to beat on Dark Khan without getting that aggravated and/or spamming projectiles, this one could be fun too.
Basically depends on your taste / style / what you want to get out of the game.

Yes, it is worth a purchase.
the Game is really fun. Beware though, it doesnt have the glorious brutality of MK2011. It's still fun if you give it a chance.

if youre actually willing to put in time and accept the fact that the strategies arent known off the bat like sf, buy it
This game was an extremely amazing experience.
Before MK9, it was, imo, the best MK game in terms of gameplay and fun.
The biggest disappointment with the game is the severe and lame lack of special content. Besides the glorious Story-mode, there was pretty much nothing extra to enjoy.
....oh, and some Fatalities (+ most Heroic Brutalities).

It's a bargain bin game. Not a bad game at all, but you won't find anyone playing it online and the new game is definitely better.
You might actually like it better due to the fact that they play so differently. One big feature in MK vs. DCU that I really wish was in MK9 was the run feature. Double tap forward to dash just isn't as effective.

If you are a fan of Mortal Kombat then the answer is clearly yes it is worth the buy. I wished it was rated M but I guess DC wouldn't like that pretty much.

DC Universe was a blast. If you don't mind the "Teen" rating than you won't have a problem. The presentation of the game was outstanding. I haven't played it in a good year or so but I remember the graphics looking great and the character and arena designs were gorgeous.
It had the best game play out of the 3D MK games in terms of game mechanics and just how tight the game felt. I thought it was really well done in that regard.
The game also has a fantastic story mode (it's a lot like MK9's story mode). If you're a fan of DC Comics, or just superheroes in general, the cross-over was very nice. Each 'side' (the MK characters and the DC characters) were handled respectfully.
If you have people to play against the versus mode was a blast. Even with the toned-down Fatalities and gore it was fun to play constantly with some of my friends. When the game was new three or four of us would play for two or three hours at a time. It was incredibly fun.
If you're one of those "super hardcore" Mortal Kombat fans (ie, the type that wants to castrate Ed Boon for Kratos and Freddy, even though everything else in the game was a fan's dream...) you probably won't like it haha.
Honestly the only MK game that has ever let me down was Armageddon and I think most of that was Midway forcing the game out the door before it was truly ready to be released. MK4 gets a lot of hate too but I enjoyed it for going "back to the basics" after how silly things got with the MK3-era games. MK4 went back to being dark and gritty (ie no silly finishers like Friendships/Babalities or goofy Fatalities like Jax turning into a giant and stepping on you or Smoke blowing up the entire world).
I wouldn't be against a Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe 2 sometime down the line, or even an all DC Comics fighting game done by the MK team.

No it is not even worth the thought of "Should I rent this?" or "should I play it at my friends house?" either. This game should be obliterated from existence. This pile of crap needs to be terminated.
