The Dragon King is back in action, but Reptile's body is far too flimsy and weak a form for one of Outworld's most feared tyrants. So, in order to become more powerful, the Dragon King begins to consume Edenia's life force, leaving it as drained and desolate as Outworld. Naturally, this is cause for concern for Princess Kitana, who is wracking her mind trying to decide what to do. The answer comes in the form of an old enemy: Mileena, whom it seems has gained quite a following during her stay in the Netherrealm.

Mileena offers Kitana the aid of her Netherrealm warriors and the now-deceased Baraka's army of mutant nomads in exchange for partial control of Edenia. Kitana, having no choice, reluctantly accepts.

Drahmin, meanwhile, has been restored to his human form by the magical properties of Quan Chi's inner sanctum. Attempting to return to power as a feared warlord, he becomes the Dragon King's new general, all the while plotting to overthrow his new leader.

Despite Frost's repeated requests, Sub-Zero refuses to accelerate her training, knowing that if he did, he would be giving her more power than she could handle responsibly. Filled with resentment, Frost joins Sektor's Tekunin clan and undergoes the automation process in order to magnify her skills. She plans to challenge Sub-Zero for possession of the Dragon Medallion and leadership of the Lin Kuei, something Sektor had been unable to do. Sektor realises that Frost's skills best even his own, and plans to turn against her and have her destroyed.

Mavado, also, is not content with having destroyed the Black Dragon and now shifts his focus to the Lin Kuei. With the onslaught against the Lin Kuei, Sub-Zero would be unable to travel with the Earthrealm warriors to help defeat the Dragon King. So, he calls upon his former Lin Kuei member Cyrax to hold down the fort while he travels to Outworld.

Cyrax does a fine job, and Frost, not able to penetrate the strong defense of the Lin Kuei, instead overthrows Sektor as the leader of the Tekunin. Desperate to avoid destruction from an army he himself created, Sektor comes crawling to his ex-partner Cyrax and seeks his aid. Despite his better instincts, Cyrax agrees to a temporary partnership with Sektor.

The Red Dragon also is determined to destroy the U.S. Special Forces, and succeeds in killing Major Jackson Briggs, a.k.a. Jax. Sonya is now blinded with rage, and determines to extinguish the Red Dragon at any costs. She agrees to travel to Outworld with the chosen Earth warriors under the guise of helping defeat the Dragon King, but she is actually there to hunt down and destroy Mavado.

Raiden, of course, calls upon the usual gang to help him defend the Earth. Kung Lao, Kenshi, Johnny Cage, Sub-Zero and his new apprentice, Sareena, eagerly accept. Sareena isn't interested in helping Earth, though, and decides that for all intents and purposes, the Dragon King's army looks to be the winning side. She decides to use her feminine wiles on the Dragon King, in hopes of becoming his queen.

I still haven't come up with a storyline for Scorpion. I'm assuming Nitara and her vampires will keep to themselves, Hsu Hao and Kano are dead, Li Mei's in the undead army, and Bo'Rai Cho is off somewhere getting plastered.
