1.Dark Souls
I bought the game just to experience the difficulty. But I also got to experience one of the most immersive and addictive games ever made.
Combat, level design, creativity; all perfect. I've already played 40 hours already and I'm still enjoying myself.

2.Mortal Kombat
Truly the pinnacle in fighting mechanics in any MK which is easy to grasp and yet, very flexible on what you can exactly do. And Sonya's alternate is amazing.

3.Battlefield 3
Pretty much reality on your computer screen. What can I say?

1. Skyward Sword
2. Skyrim
3. Uncharted 3

As much as I love MK9, I doubt it will be GOTY.

It's a tie between Skyrim and Portal 2.

Best adventure /RPG: (tie) Batman Arkham City & Skrim
Best FPS: (tie) Gears of War 3 & Battlefield 3
[edit]: Its nice to know that NetherRelm Studios contributed to 2 top games this year. For those that are unaware, NetherRelm studios was a contributing developer on Batman Arkham City. Only name I recognized in the credits was Mike Boon though.

Only high profile new game I've played this year was Mortal Kombat.

Not getting AC:R till Christmas, though I'd consider it a contender, looks as stellar as the previous games.


I also consider Batman Arkham city to be a contender, pretty fun looking, love the open world aspect of it.

and I'm sure MW3 will get a huge recommendation, though I do not like nor care for the seres.

Those are pretty much the only games of 2011 I've played, and I enjoyed them all.

MW3 and BF3 wont get it because they improved SO Little from what i've played. I wish Mortal Kombat got GOTY, but disappointingly it wont.... But it got Fighting Game of the Year, and thats just as good.

GOTY is a total joke, its different for everyone and every publication.

To be fair you'd have to use pure logic and even then you'd have to go by genre and platform.

also, seriously people, POPULARITY =/= QUALITY. I played MW3 in 2002, it was just called call of duty then and its still the same damn game.

1) Arkham City. Awesome game.
2) Gears of War 3. Probably as perfect as it could be.
3) Portal 2. Its just plain not as good as Portal though.
4) Mortal Kombat. Nothing to be said here.
5) Sonic Generations. Yes its a Sonic game. But its good. Promise. Too short though.
6) MW3. Based only on the story mode really. Still not as good as CoD4. But its ok. People hate on CoD because its what the cool kids do.

Marvel Vs Capcom after the initial 5 minutes of playing as Deadpool, it wore off.

Haven't played: Halo, Deus Ex, Skyrim, Anything made by Nintendo.

It's better in every way.

Apart from a good chunk of single player being mostly comprised of areas with a tiny square of portalable wall.

I want to play Sonic Generations now, the playthroughs on youtube are teh sexay.

Battlefield takes it for me because I love games with a competetive aspect and unlike MK it actually runs great online. I will be playing it for months to come. For this reason I have also not gotten Skyrim yet. No doubt I will enjoy it but I also know for a fact I won't even finish it. RPG games do not hold my attention for long enough.

Skyward sword is feeling like the best game I've ever played so far. I'm almost at the end I believe, and these boss battles are sick, other than 1 >_> also, the silent realm, that place is tense, and when you get caught, omg! The silent hill music playing and you running for your life is just crazy.

Other than that, Skyrim, Mortal Kombat, Battlefield, Mario Land 3D? lol no handhelds never get held that highly. D:
