Holy God at the 30 meter Tsunami in Japan. I just--I don't know how many people I have seen die in the live stream. Entire towns are being wiped out. It was caused by what was apparently the 7th strongest(8.9) earthquake ever recorded. The U.S. west coast is under watch.

Too horrified to link or post...

"Kurihara is a city located in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. As of 2008, the city had an estimated population of 77,012 and a population density of 95.7 persons per km2. The total area is 804.93 km2. Soon after the 2011 Sendai earthquake and tsunami of March 11, 2011 the Japan Meteorological Agency estimated that the town had been completely destroyed."
For the life of me I can't find a source on this, but it's been floating around everywhere.

I live in Ashikaga, which is maybe a few hours by train from Sendai - the closest city to the epicentre (off the coast - in the ocean, thankfully) and I have to say, it was MASSIVE. We get small tremors a lot, and this one started out like all the others. But it just grew and grew. I was alone in my English classroom, and at first it was the same old, but in a matter of seconds shit got serious, the whole school was shaking, glass shuddering - for those unfamiliar, it's kinda like severe turbulence beneath your feet.

Serious damage and untold death north and to the east of me though. All said and done, the death toll is gonna be pretty damn high.

Finally, it's 11pm here, and we're still getting aftershocks.
The quake struck at 2:46pm...

I've been seeing statuses on Facebook talking about this. Wow... just watching all of that water just flooding towns and seeing things just get on fire... It's also horrifying just seeing all the cars race away.

I really hope all gets better really fast in Japan.

I live on Vancouver Island; it's not as bad for us... we're on Tsunami advisory ourselves. My friend lives in Japan though, I was worried sick when I heard the news. He was alright, though.. lives pretty close to Sendai.

Christ this is horrible.

Heard about this at school. I think the California coast has been evacuated. At least that's what I heard at school.

So sorry for anyone who suffered this.

I hope relief teams from all over the world do their best job.

Would donate money if I had any to spare.
