So...
I really wanted to do this thread under the name of Death to America, but who knows what would have came up through internet surveillance. But to the point:
America, in this case the United States honestly makes me fear for the future of the civilized western civilization. After much afterthought, I have concluded that the idea of the United States of America WAS the perfect effort to create a truly outstanding society. But that fell apart quite rapidly in the last two, three decades.
What is my problem with the U.S.A. as a resident in the European Union?
Mainly that too much potential power is concentrated in the so called leader of the free democrtic world. I cannot take the USA seriously due to the following reasons.
- The U.S.A. is a police state. Monitoring and tracking your own citizens, complete crowd surveillance and control over the populace. SOPA, PIPA, these are nothing compared to the lengths your goverment might or MAY HAVE GONE.
-racism and misuse of the word racism. I do not need to introduce what racism is, but honestly, Food Stamp President? Obama the Magic Negro songs? Also: calling anyone racist if he or she does not share the same opinions as you.... which leads me to one of the MAIN points:
-DE-INTELLECTUALIZATION and MAINSTREAM WORSHIP OF THE DUMB in the U.S.A.: this one is a sore for me. I have grown a bit tired from media outputs, most of them coming from the USA.
What the fuck happened to the country that was founded by philosophers and scientists like Ben Franklin? here are some tidbits:
The USA is considered one of the WORST producing countries when it comes to recent technological or scientific advances. Despite this, the USA is the home of several prominent brains, among them Neil LegRasse Tyson who is a genuinely funny, smart and talented person who can in layman's terms explain things from black holes to microevolution.
I see two big problems with the USA. 1: lack of education, 2: lack of taking education seriously. One is self-evident. Your students, in average are below norms for factual or lexical knowledge when it comes to the generally lower, recently joined EU states. They are however better in motivation which itself is good (more on this later). But....
there isn't a drive to study. The U.S.A. is a nanny state. I generally encounter this phenomenon, where most schools LOWER their requirements so that pupils could pass. What the flying fuck? With an already thin education, you generally make sure that the future generation of soon-to-be-working 18 year olds possess the general knowledge what would be fine for a 13 year old here, who would go to middle-school. And it shows.
One of my other big beefs is closely tied with this. WHY the HELL is creationism, and intelligent design a question treated on the same level as FACTUAL science? This is pandemic to the US.... you people (generalizing, sorry) seem to not understand that BELIEF is not on the same level as KNOWING something to be factual. I am not going to go into this deeper, most of you with gray matter probably know about this.
Seriously, if you would try to pull this shit here in Slovakia, a major Catholic western slav country, the Parochials would laugh your ass out of court with everyone else. Oh, and you probably would not make an appearance there ever again.
Why is fundamentalism, fledling Christofascism and right-wing politics an issue to me? Think. In recent years there has been a sharp decline in religiousness in the western anglosphere and the Amero-European world. Even in the USA. Richard Dawkins for example. I have great admiration for that guy.
Now, sadly there has also been a destabilization in classical western societies, which make Europe in foremost susceptible to the intrusion of other, subversive cultural fronts. Such as Islam.
Before anyone comments: I have no problem with Islam. I have a problem with anyone who tries to put his beliefs above me and intergrate me under him or her. If mohamedans or sorry, musulmans wnat to live here, fine, but...
observe the country laws and customs: you are the guest here. You should not apellate on your customs and state your rights are being violated when we ask something of you what is standard for us. I don't go into your house uninvited in the USA and complain that you threw me out. Just because we can at home... (and btw, Hungary and Slovakia are far from muslimized. Infact, if a mullah would come here he would deem it far-out to convert us. Besides, we have been under the Ottoman Empire's regime for 150 years and they had to eventually evacuate...)
IF the western judeo-christian/classical hellenistic civilization is to survive would you want a leader world power that is:
-opressive
-racist.
-fundamentalist.
-mercenary (yeah, I am not going into what the USA did in some of the wars, and in some cases what it didn't do... you get the idea. Write if you want to)
Why is this an issue to me. Recent changes made me think about moving abroad. Sadly some economic events and others have made me seriously consider moving. Since I have a communicative fluency in English, the choices are probably wide, but really, some of the stuff I hear coming from the US makes me go WTF or downright make me shiver.
And the British are ponces. :) Well, not really....
I have been to the US. I am in love with Bethesda and D.C. for example. A beautiful place, despite the occasional sniper rampage. But think, if I were to move to the USA, wouldn't I be ostracised? Also, is this how the leading nation of the free world behaves, or IS?
It is just disheartening to watch the potential of the USA go to waste in a miasma of stupid-worship and fundamentalism. When was the last time the USA achieved something? Scientifically you stopped after communism fell in the USSR and the space race was over.
Also, I think that if Europe is to survive, the EU would want to become a federal state. Which was the original plan of Callergie in 1920's. Too bad that our kind of nationalism prevents us from doing so...
I would like to hear some thoughts on this, and hopefully conversation about the US. And perhaps, eventually my future living there.
What brought this out of me of all people? Well, I am confronted with some of the stupid you guys put out. Also there is an excellent show What the fuck? by Josh Hadley, which is an Internet radio show.
Hadley also is part of Radiodrome (with the Cinema Snob Brad Jones) and Lost in the Static. The guy is an ass, but gets righteously indignant at some of the stuff he talks about.
I really want to see responses, and partially it's because I have been dormant for quite some time here, so, hello and indulge me you bunch of jackdaws!

Abridged:
Murka is stupid and fundamentalist and stupid. Explain some of it, or debate it with me.
Also, you may voice your honest disapproval of my words, though in that case I will jack off under your eyelids while you sleep from a continent away.
Just so that you know.

You do understand that I might live therein the foreseeable future. Because economy.
And you are not bothered by this? Or better yet, you leave it at that?

Well that was unnecessary.
Chrome, I agree with you. America is fucked because of its two-party system and the fact that the two parties are effectively the same thing. This country is going nowhere until a Libertarian gets elected.

I never gave you my views on the issue, so your assumption to whether or not I am bothered by it is void.
Also, with the extent of the seriousness of your post, I find it odd that you would want to live in a place with such problems. Sure, the problems can be corrected, but that can occur in any country. It would seem better to migrate to country in which those problems don't already exist.

I wouldn't say that.
That rant itself is what truly can be viewed as unnecessary, as it seems Chrome is focusing more awareness on the issues of another country than that of his own, and if his nation does not currently have serious issues of the like, than it is more the reason for him to cease the rant and count his blessings.
However, if his home is experiencing issues of the like, then it may be better that he focus on bettering his home.

I read a news story a couple years back, that one of the States' school systems wanted to go back to using outdated, racist, and wrong textbooks from before all the civil rights, and equality movements began.
IIRC, It was Kentucky or one of the Southern states.
Systematically dumming down the populace supposedly keeps free thought in check. If anyone speaks up or tries something different/new, they're called crazy, and ostracised. Big business just wants worker drones to work, and consumers to buy.
So America is spying on everyone, WE ALREADY KNEW THAT!
It's not like the conspiracy theorists are going to get an apology.

Well, let me just say I think you've misunderstood the term "Food Stamp President"
It has nothing to do with him being black and the association that African-Americans are on welfare. The term "Food Stamp President" has to do with the fact that the number of Americans applying for Food Assistance has greatly increased under this administration.

Now, a second more opinionated post.
I am, in the truest sense of both words, a Confederate and Republican. I believe in a Republic made up of nearly autonomous states bound together out of the single obligation of safety and freedom freedom from tyranny.
Meaning, I believe the Federal government of the United States of America need only exist to exercise what is laid out in the Constitution of the United States and the Amendments to it - nothing more.
The Federal Government, in my opinion, has no authority to tell us what we must buy, how to educate our children, who we can and cannot marry, who we can and cannot trade with, and limit private enterprize.
All of this and much more, in my opinion, should be handled by the States. Our problem is that we've take so much power from the states and invested it in Federal Government. We've given so much authority to bloated, egomaniacal, bureaucrats, who've never been to the regions they are passing legislation for.
I've little concern with the going on in New York, California, Connecticut, and so on; to hell with them. I've not an opinion or right to tell them how to manage their states, why should their Senators and Congressmen have any say over what happens in Idaho? They shouldn't!
We've become a nation run by an elected king; put in place by Five States - Texas, Florida, New York, California, and Ohio.
I want a nation of nearly autonomous states! If a welfare state works for Massachusetts so be it! If religious education in Texas Schools makes them happy, then let them have it!
No more one-statism, no more federal authority, no more bloated federal programs, and no more arguing over which state is right. Let them all have what they desire and abandoned this damned foolish idea of a unified state.
Finally, I'm not an isolationist. I'm a global capitalist, in fact. But my opinion, when it comes to Europe, Asia, and their criticisms of us and their fears of us is - "So what?"
Look down on us, be confused by us, fear the fact we have nuclear weapons, but in the end we're going to do whatever the hell it is that we do because, the truth of the matter is that we're making it up as we go along. We like it that way, and we aren't going to take any advice; regardless of whether it's good or not. We don't want to be Europe, we don't want to be Asia; as the great Craig Ferguson said "We are the United States of America; we are more than a country."
Take solace in the fact that America will forever be unlike anywhere else in the world. Even if it becomes what I want it to be, or what others in this country want it to be, the forces amongst it will make it so uniquely different from anywhere else in the world until it either crumbles into a beautiful chaotic mess of rising and falling nationstates or this planet is scorched into a radioactive ball of black sludge.
The End.

Well, as someone that served in the US Army including a tour to Afghanistan I have to say...the US sketches me out now. I mean I live here and to an extent I succeed here (well, survive/eek by) so I can't slam it really...but everyday I'm more and more convinced this country is going down the tubes. The government is too corrupt, the economic system is a deck of cards waiting to get knocked over, and the everyday citizen lives in an oblivious bubble. People think (and it's not their fault really) that the American way of life is sustainable and it just isn't.
It is what it is I guess. So I just try to live life as George Carlin lived his. Be an observer as the system goes down the proverbial tubes.

I feel like this text is true sometimes.
Ryakou this is a three-pronged pitchfork problem for me.
For one, I am entitled to voice my opinion if it is within civilized limits and if it does not hurt anyone. You might think it is only your problem to which I have no contribution unless I solve the problems back at home.
Yes we have those. The Treaty of Trianon made sure that in the last hundred years ethnic peace would be a far fetched dream here.
1. Why does it bother me? Because the US exports pop culture fist and foremost, and sadly it is becoming inherent that the youth here try to copy the worst aspects of the US culture. You DO affect the world across the pond. So far however the worst excesses are not prominent. But the fact is the culture of dumb is spreading.
2. The USA might not talk about it, but the European financial stability is not a good thing for them, at least not as a wholesome matter. Short answer: a strong United Europe is not an interest. Intrusion into our policies indirectly is therefore another matter that
3. Without the USA I see no future for exploring the uiverse around us. Mankind should reach out to the stars. And frankly so far the Chinese have shown more incentive to do this.
Understand this. In Europe you cannot just go into another country and work there. The language barrier is strong enough that for example speaking English would prohibit me from communicating fluently, because it is only a secondary or tertiary language. I would be better off with German in the Germanosphere (Benelux states, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Northen Italy).
Another thing: as a teacher I would have to be native. Which I am not. Considering all, Brittain and the USA are so far my best choices.

You're gonna move here because of something we don't have?
No. Because all in all it is one of the most opportune choice of all.
Also, the USA despite this is fascinating. I hate travelling but Bethesda was fantastic.
Oh, about the food stamp president. Yes, I know. Living on stamps is also a part of my home economy when it comes to managing lunch on workdays.

The End.
I wouldn't want the USA to be anything else aside itself. I like it that way. Same way I like my Hungarian culture without overt (ahem, re-) Slovakization.
I think a confederate model would work from that prespective, do you imagine it within the confines of a trade and monetary union? Meaning: the price would be set in each state in USD, or Confederate Dollar?
And wouldn't a confederacy distribute too much power into separate states, effectively nullifying the USA as a world power?
As a republican, you are perhaps failiar with Bill O'Reilly show? I saw his rhetoric which consists of mostly interruptions, denial of speech (funnily, the Hungarian Diet in 1848 made this into an art called Obstruction) and restating of incorrect data.
Is this pandemic? In your words, what is the problem with religion and sciece over there? I really like to ask that question because recently I have myself underwent a major reexamination of my beliefs.
Also one more question: what do you people see in the next elections?

I would favor a monetary union amongst the states, if my confederate ideal were met, however in a gold standard system- but that's a totally different argument for another time.
As for military strengths, I feel that a federal government with authorities limited to the protection of Constitution and the Bill of Rights as well as maintaining a military would have a much better time maintaining a military without the competing demands of institutions which would now be handled by the states. Furthermore, I feel if more authority were returned to the states (this is total conjecture mind you) that the U.S. government would be far more hesitant, as it was in the early 20th century, to venture into military quagmires.
As for the O'Reilly, news, religion, thing. This is the truth of the matter- media in the United States -liberal and conservative- want to fuck each other up. As a result the loudest voice, or what is being pointed out most often is of the smallest and most insignificant importance. Religion, might be a good example, there is a minority -we're talking less 10s of thousands at most- who demand creationism taught in school. Of those 10s of thousands I would say 90% of them would say "Give it as an option along side standard evolution." The problem is, however, that the media gives the microphone to that last 10% to drum up ratings and controversy. This is how it works. CNN, MSNBC, FOX - all American news outlets do it.
Another problem is that a bunch of people cannot discern between news and opinion shows. Hannity, O'Reilly, Mathews, Sharpton- all opinion shows that people take as news because they are on a news channel. Take basic FOX News coverage and Basic MSNBC coverage and they are identical; it is the damned opinion shows that create the skew.
We give the microphone to the dumbest people on the planet because we like to laugh at them. Chris Mathews Left- Bill O'Reilly Right, Al Sharpton Left - Sean Hannity Right.
The worst about this is endless crap news cycle buries important news.
Anthony Weiner's dick picks are deemed more media important than Benghazi
The Royal Baby is deemed more important than the NSA
Kanye West's bastard is deemed more important than the IRS scandal
Why? Because no one does any damn journalism in this country anymore. I don't care if you're Fair and Balanced or First Among News, Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite are spinning in their graves because you'd rather cover the birth of an infant that will someday wear a flower pot on its head than cover the gross incompetence in one of the most powerful governments to grace the annals of history!
As for next election cycle, I suspect no major changes in the 2014 mid-term. The Democratic Party will move further toward the center. The Republican party will settle the "Establishment vs. the Libertarian infused" no doubt with the more youthful Libertarian blood winning out.
For the Democrats, Hillary Clinton is too tainted to win the nomination and Joe Biden is too...Joe Biden. Look to Cory Booker or Andrew Cuomo for the nomination. Antonio Villaraigosa may give it a go, but I suspect the financial problems that occurred while he was mayor will result in him being the Democrats "2016 Newt Gingrich" (Someone who takes FOREVER to quit)
For the Republicans, Chris Christie and Rand Paul will obliterate each other in the primaries. If Christie can keep up through South Carolina and Florida, then that torpedo's Paul and someone like Ted Cruz or Rob Portman will snag it. Marco Rubio might be tossed into that mix, but I really think he's content where he's at and really he seems more like VP material.
Gary Johnson will once again be the nominee of the Libertarian Party, and will get record votes (unless Rand Paul snags the Republican nomination). Libertarian representatives may actually win in States like Colorado and Washington.
Cory Booker, honestly, I think is the Democrat's best bet for winning the White House in '16. I really like him as a person, even though I'd never vote for him. The problem, however, is that some will consider him to be a "phony Obama" or "too much like Obama" to receive the nomination. Also, I think his victory would only be assured if an "establishment Republican" were run.
Ted Cruz and Rand Paul, I think, are the best bets for the Republicans in 2016. Cruz, being a relatively young man of the people could infuse some new life into the Republican Party. Some may cite his being hispanic as an advantage, but I really don't think it offers anything beyond accusations that Republicans are running a "Token Hispanic." Rand Paul could siphon off votes from Gary Johnson due to his infused Libertarianism- that might be enough to win him both the white house and the nomination.
My thoughts.

Yeah, this country gets worse and no one seems to notice or care.
The invasive acts of our government is what fucks me up every day.
Police state is almost inevitable if there isn't some insurrection within the next 10 or so years, and I plan to haul ass as soon as financially possible.

Fox "news" has been a joke since looooooong before I joined MKO.
Even longer before that. I stopped watching Fox news during the 2nd Millenium. Ridiculous "stories", sensationalizing random shit with skewed & just plain wrong "facts", laughable comments or commentary...
Too much partisan BS in other news. Everyone's trying to push an agenda, get paid sponsoring whoever with bias. Scare tactics, and yelling.
Reporting the news is supposed to be about the TRUTH!
Big pharma, and buisness try to keep things in their control.
The economy is a ravenous beast that must constantly be fed.
Everything, EVERYTHING is a form of control. Choice is an illusion, another form of control. Especially when "they" supply your choices. How do you build a better mousetrap? Ask the mouse what it likes, then use that as bait.
I'm glad the peoples have finally been standing up for change.

Voting has become a joke in this country. Just look at our shitty candidates that have Harvard degrees but can't stop spending money. Me being an African American male I believed in Baracks bull shit as a early high school student involved in politics.
Until my college professor opened my eyes and showed me the truth. Its insane that we're more worried about who's gay and social issues, than the ever growing economic crisis in this country.
Look at who we have in this country:
Anthony Weiner
Mitt Romney
John McCain
Al Sharpton
Barack Obama
We are fucked! Our politicians are the joke and we're the punchline!
