You raise an interesting point here, and I find it both refreshing and intelligent of you to lump Sharpton in with the other names you mentioned. It's been my belief that guys like Sharpton, like Jesse Jackson, etc. do far more harm than good to both black communities and the perception of blacks here in the United States. Just my two cents on that matter.

Blame the media, who thinks it's important to follow celebrity statuses and Twitter accounts, court cases that had issues happening everywhere else in the world, and other bullshit that has nothing to do with what's really important.
I mean, where I live, I would totally love to have the gang violence to end. But yet our president, who is from Illinois, would rather spend more time on vacation than trying to find a plausible way to end this nonstop violence that we have in our country, with Illinois being a leading example.
(You can obviously tell I am not a Democrat whatsoever)
We're spending so much fucking time on that goddamn Zimmerman/Martin case, and yet dozens of incidents like that are happening out in the streets, not just in my city, but everywhere else. We feel the need to protest a result of that case rather than trying to find a solution to end violence altogether. And of course, certain people doesn't make cases any easier, but that's a whole different story.
Face it, our country is corrupted with people who loves to twist facts, make useless bullshit become important, and hide or change the subject about things that are important. It may have it's nice parts every once and awhile, but honestly, we have so much corruption happening here, it's quite sad and it kills me a little inside each day.

It's more than your two cents, I hate Jackson and Sharpton with a passion. All they do, as you stated, is do more harm than good. But... I'm going to end my rant here about those two.
What are the odds of having a secular, unmarried and young president from either parties?
One of my favourites is when the U.S.A. "intervenes" in foreign issues. You might have had zero coverage for this: Hillary Clinton making comments on how democracy is being threatened in Hungary when we implemented a new constitution and laws that came down on the financial sector?
(on the other hand, we do have a strong party of nationalists. Almost every Eastern-European country has them now)
Also, nevermind that the EU also has some truly despicable representatives in places of power. Though they usually have no religious affiliation. We have nutjobs, but no religious nutjobs.

@Chrome: Your blatant bias/prejudice against the US prevents any possible legitimate discussion. It's appalling, honestly especially since you "want Americans to indulge you" in some sort of debate. And to be clear, you talk about how much of a steaming hunk of shit America/Americans are then want to MOVE HERE FOR A FUCKING JOB!?! Get out of here with that type of hypocritical bullshit.
@Everyone else: People claiming "this country is shit" should go live in a country ravaged by warfare, famine, poverty, disease, tyrrany, and persecution.

Nah, I can't really move out of this country. We have problems, serious problems but... no other country is really satisfying to live... I get homesick too easily.
I do want to change the issues I stated in my previous post however. Just to better this country, because I would like it to get better, and want to... more so before I graduate... which is in fifteen weeks after the 31st of this month.

I did. I wore the uniform of the US Army in Afghanistan and experienced things that have more or less forced me to receive psychological counseling so I don't lose my freaking mind. That "love it or leave it" stance is exactly one of the things wrong with this country. It doesn't solve or fix anything and is more or less the equivalent of plugging one's ears and shouting over undesired noise. Just something to think about.

I'm not saying "love it or leave it", I'm saying put it into context when you're making broad generalized declarations of the US "going to hell in a handbasket". It's not plugging one's ears to point out that we have the luxury of having first-world problems.

Ok just making sure.
I am not biased towards the USA, I am rightfully biased towards it's political culture. As I am towards our very own here, but that is another story. There are plenty of things what I like about the USA. Also, I have been to the US.
If I came off as hypocritical, it was not my intention. However there is nothing wrong with voicing concerns about sometihng last time I checked. And don't forget that your internal problems also affect the world around you.
This is relevant to me because once I go abroad it would be long term. Also, should I ever apply for citizenship, I would automatically lose my Slovakian one and I would have to integrate.
Mojo6: I live in a country that openly persecuted my particular minority with language laws. Also, next to the above, we are not exactly the pinnacle of economic stability. My county has around a 20% uneployment and I am thankful I can work abroad for now.
EDIT: I forgot. If I truly offended some of the Americans here on Valid grounds, I honestly apologize.

I miss Foahchon. I hear he leans far left these days, but that guy brought so much perspective to everything. Agree or disagree, I loved reading his posts.
As for Chrome's post, I mean, some of it I agree with and some of it I don't. I don't stress as much over socio-political problems these days. I feel it's more productive to argue right-principles-vs-wrong-princples instead of working-systems-vs-non-working-systems. The latter is ultimately inconclusive IMO, and if we do the former, the latter may end up working itself out anyway.
And if it doesn't, then no matter. Research, argue, and vote: that is all you can do at the end of the day. Most Americans only do two out of three of these things at most.

The hero everyone needs right now.
no one is saying the US or UK are the worst countries ever, just that the corruption has gone on for too long at the expense of the people.

Great... *groan* an anarchist killer. Seriously.
Btw, read the comic, you'll find that V isn't the romanticised Hugo Weaving-voiced action hero the movie made him out to be. He's barely better than bin Laden there, if there is a distinction at all.

About corruption. It is nothing new.
The main problem is that the western-hemisphere of the world seems to be heading towards an Orwellian dystopia. And make no mistake, as it was pointed out -in my own hypocrysy if there was any- that this applies everywhere.
The problem I see is that the population is content with being/playing dumb, adhering to outdated ethical principles (to which they do not hold themselves to) while being overtly nationalistic.
You know, the problem has more to do with general ignorance, rather with the U.S. I think that those specific problems pertaining to that country are dealt with.
...OK, this thread is concluded as I started it off on a wrong presumption and without the sufficient backthought. I will get to this problem in a new thread.
Close please.

When I was championing Obama for America, I was championing Jak Layton, here. Unfortunately, Harper won & Layton died, with no worthy sucessor.
I don't know how Harper won. I swear he Sideshow Bob'd the election.
Poroguing parliment to dodge a no confidency vote.
Massive omnibus bills to hide changes in tedium.
Huge cutbacks on environmental protections.
After my stepmom's friend died, she saw a thing on FB saying he supported the Conservitives. She yelled he was a lifelong NDP.
The robocall BS.
Always taking trips, and photo ops.
Something happens, pass a do-little show law to help "prevent" future shit as a kneejerk reaction.
Harper was touring flood damage wearing an Airforce bomber jacket, with emblems/flight wings. Couple weeks ago someone on the radio mentioned that civilians can't wear fatigues if they haven't served. Veterans families can't even wear the ir old uniforms. It is illegal!
And they wanna go on about Justin Trudeau smoking pot?
They attacked him before because he was a teacher.
Unless he's bitching about a paycheque instead of helping people, that's usually a good thing.
The Government here has been so backwards since Obama got in.
All Harper cares about is photo ops.
