2 really good francises + 1 not-so-good director = Sloppy

when I was 13 I heard the rumor of an AVP movie and I was excited, 7 years later I'm a little disappointed.

I blame myself somewhat, I mean when I walk up to buy my ticket and I see "PG-13" that should have told me SOMETHING. Seeing as how every Alien and Predator movie was rated R. It definately needed more gore, and I don't say that too often.

Honesty it was a good story, loved the story. The script was freakin horrible.

I did not like the fact that a guy buried in ice was killed by a predator when they primarily use heat as a way of vision. Ex. Arnold hide from the predator using mud.

Oh and I want to know how the hell is it 2, count them 2 Predators went out like punks to ONE Alien. It just doesn't happen!

This movie proves the saying wrong that good things come to people who wait. I waited 7 years and got screwed.

I agree, it could have used more gore and should have been a rated R movie. I like the Predator design as well as the Aliens (especially the Queen Alien, she looked KILLER) design. I blame the director other than that it was an alright movie.

man its been a logn day, yes it is the general forum. In regards to the movie, it was okay at best. If they had followed the book storyline, i think it would have been excellent.

The predator I grew up to like and know would've slaughtered that girl without hesitating. The thing about AVP, is everybody has a preconcieved notion of what they want it to be and when its not that they call it crap.

I would give it a B+ overall. Highly entertaining and some cool ass shit man!

The only things that really pissed me off are:

-The predators mouth, its not the same 'pussy-face' as before, they gave it teeth instead.

-The slow motion 'matrix-style' shots of the facehuggers.

not really, the predator culture has a very high since of honor. She would of had to of been armed, and she never was until he gave her the sheild and spear.
Thats another thing that pisses me off about them killing that guy that fell down the tube, he was never armed.

I liked the story, hated everything else. The fact that it was Alien -v- Predator finally made a movie was an awesome feeling. Alot of crap didnt make sense in this film and I'll explain.

1.PG-13...(enough said, every Alien & Predator movie had an R rating)

2.Where were all the fight scenes between the 2? We get about 3 fight scenes(didnt last long at all). 2 Predators were killed off in less than 3 minutes of each other by 1 Alien. The last fight w/the Queen and the last Predator was very, very short and it sucked.)

3.Why where the Predators the "good guys" and the Aliens the "bad guys"? The Predator had emotion for a human??? The Aliens where used as bait and used as hunt and there the bad guys? Yeah, okay!

4.The acting wasnt that bad but could of been better. Also, didn't it take a few days or so before the Alien "busted" out of their chests?

Here's hoping that after the ending we seen that if and thats a big IF we get a sequel they had better take their time and actually watch the damn movies. Also, maybe Anderson's "R" rated A -v- P DVD when it comes out will make up for this.

Ok, for those that are either living in denial, or just don't understand the basics of logic, here's why AvP sucked:

-The Predators kill every single human left behind. Now if they already knew that the humans were to be the hosts of the Aliens, wouldn't killing them defeat the purpose? It's like shooting a gun to look cool, and then when you need it you find out you wasted all of the bullets earlier.

-The timeline in the movie was all fucked up. We have seen 4 Alien movies in the past, and they all set up the idea that the Alien incubation period took several hours, and yet another couple hours for it to grow to it's full size. In AvP it took mere minutes. Plus the one that was in the Predator was in there for HALF the movie.

-They built up the flick with the line "Whoever wins, we lose". That all went out the door when the last Predator teamed with the last human.

-The team of excavators are able to decifer a combination of three totally different acient languages with ease; as if it was all written in plain english. It would take hours to decifer all of that, and throw in the fact that over time symbols wear away and may resemble others. That's like taking russian, spanish, french, and english and writing an entire story with it.

-The director was Paul Anderson, who is what I call a "style over substance" director. The script can be filled with holes and he tries to hide them by putting in over the top special effects. Plus he doesn't know when enough is enough with the effects and over does it.

-There is one human in particular that is shown mercy. Now logically any normal person would be releived because of this; but what does the moron do? He tries to burn the Predator. Really, I've never seen such stupidity.

-The human and the Predator are able to establish some form of comunication which was rediculous. Ok, body language may work, but that really pushing it. This girl was TALKING to the Predator and he seemed to understand completly.

-I cringed at the slow-mo running scene. Could we get any cheesier Anderson?

-The Predators have always been known to be remarkable hunters. A single Predator could easily take down ten Aliens on his own, and YES it was down in the comics. There are three in this flick and two die in mere minutes of encountering their first.

-We all know the Alien blood is very caustic. Yet, the main female in the movie is able to were a fresh Alien's head on her arm, and surprisingly it had no residue; otherwise it would have eaten through her arm.

And finally my biggest problem with the movie, and it's a very large problem I have with Paul Anderson. There have only been two Predator movies in the past and four Alien movies. There was a series of comics that documented the feud between the two. Now this movie took seven years to be made. In that time the entire series had a large CULT following with die hard fans. Now it is because of these fans that the movie was even made, and all they deserved was a movie that stuck to what has been established, but with a few possibly surprises thrown in. Yet, for all of the patience they showed they are given a very rushed shell of what they had been hoping for, for years. And this isn't the first time Paul Anderson has done this. He did it with Resident Evil too. He took a liceansed product that basically wrote itself, and threw out all of the pre-existing facts and made up his own as he went along. And he did it very poorly and sloppy. The fact that the movie was knocked down to a PG-13 is probably because it wouldn't have made any money had it been R rated, because only a young teen find this kind of movie entertaining, while it's core audience is roughly between the ages of 18-40. But that's Hollywood for you.

I didn't say he directed it. He wrote the script....That's even worse.

No, the Predator you grew up to like and know would not have slaughtered the woman just for the hell of it.
Watch the other 2 films, the Predators don't killed unarmed victims for no reason. They aren't just killing machines that kill for the sake of killing. They kill for sport. That was specifically stated in both Predator films, and Prdators spared unarmed victims in both films.
Scar teaming up with Lex fit perfectly with what is known about the Predators. His allies had been killed, he was left on his own, she offered him back his weapon and he saw her take out an Alien after offering a truce, so he accepted her as an fellow warrior. The Predators aren't mindless killing machines and they never where.
This movie could've and should've been better, but it was still a fun popcorn flick. There wasn't enough action, but what they did have was pretty impressive. The effects were excellent, that's an area Anderson definitely excells in. The fighting was too unbalanced, first an Alien kills 2 Predators in one scene, than a Predator wipes out hundreds of Aliens almost single-handedly, including their Queen.
Lex and Wayland were strong characters, the rest were underdeveloped.
The movie had more than its share of flaws, it's not a masterpiece, but it's still a good flick with some great moments.
Anderson himself has admitted the theatrical version of the film didn't meet its full potential because of FOX forcing him to make cuts for length and the PG-13 rating. I'm sure the director's cut dvd will be a vastly better film, for action and character development.
The characters are pretty well rounded in the novelization, that will probably come out in the dvd.

Ok, i have been waiting for this movie for about 10+ years and here is my comments:

Overall for a pg-13 flick this is by no means a shithouse movie. Think of little kiddies and general movie goers, they will most probably think the movie is decent and entertaining, because i kno i did.

As for fans of the franchises yes it does dissapoint. There were a lot of factors including the rating that affect this movie and some essential elements.

Before i give reasons here is some backround information. Predators are by no means mindless killing machines as stated above. They hunt for hounor and pride so they are not going to kill inocent surrendering humans like lex. In the books which are absolutely awesome there is a female character who teams up with the last predator becuase they both no the only way out alive is to form a team because the pyramid is overrun with aliens. And also predators can have a hard time with aliens if it is a small tight space, even with one alien, the aliens had the advantage not the predators so thats why two were killed off quikly. So basically the predators were displayed pretty acuratley.

Reasons for dissapointment to fans:

Rating: We all know you cannot have this movie with a kiddie rating, complete bullshit and blame fox for this they only want money, not hounoring two great franchises.

Aliens: Besides their kick ass look they were destroyed by a few elements that were estalished in earlier films. Incubation was way too fast, this rushed them into appering in like 2 minutes.

Script: Yea this sucked. The acting was averge two, besides maybe lex.

Time: An hour and a half is no way near enought time to establish this kind of movie. There is so much more to storytell and this movie was compacted and lost its overall tension.

Fear factor: This is mostly considered an action film but a fear factor would have been better at the begining to make the movie more engrosing till the end.

Last fight scence (Queen): Rushed again. The predator didnt really do as much as he could off.

So pretty much as a predator movie it was decent but as an alien movie was f'kd. The sequal should address these reasons and hopefully fix them.

The only bit I hated really, was when ONE Alien took out TWO Predators. That's just bullshit.

It was a good movie, if you went to go see it for the action.
