Anybody a fan of this manga or the anime?
For the curious, the series looks at a dystopian future where the last of humanity is housed within cities surrounded by 50 meter high walls in order to protect themselves from the sudden emergence of giant beings that live to only eat humans, named Titans for their horrific appearance. It focuses on Eren, his adopted sister Mikasa, and their friend Armin, and how their lives are changed when after 100 years of peace behind the walls is broken when a colossal 60 meter titan kicks down a section of the wall, resulting in the Titans invading the once closed human territory. 20% of the human population is killed off as a result. The three of them join the military to help save mankind from extinction.
Here's a legal link to watch the very first episode. The manga is still incomplete, and the show is actually catching up to it, so it's interesting because we still don't have all the info yet, and I like what I've watched and read so far. The battles between humans and titans are pretty cool, and the whole concept of monsters large enough to eat people, and who actually do it for the sake of just killing humans is scary. The plot twists are insane too, and I love the majority of the characters we get to observe throughout.
So, thoughts? Opinions? Theories?

Titans/Titans/Humans fights are hype, soundtrack is great, pacing is good.

I've only seen clips of it here and there, along with countless internet memes. From the clips of the show I have seen, I think the animation style is kind of par for the course when it comes to anime that's done on the cheap. The way the characters get around with the side mounted hooks and such is cool, but the titans themselves seem to lack any real anatomy when they are being animated. Every just feels soft or muddy from what've seen. Maybe it's better in the anime. But I really have zero interest in finding out.

Agree on all fronts, except for the female Titan being considered hot; I like my women with skin.

I do not watch enough anime to be able to make a quality judgement on style, but at the very least, I can say that the interpretation of the Titans from the manga to the anime is a whole lot better. When you actually get a chance to see Titans in close, you notice how detailed their faces are to the point that they look like scary caricatures of people you'd see in the street, with their permanent, gleeful smiles plastered to their faces as they hunt down and eat people, retaining them even in their deaths. You can also notice the details in things like veins around the larger portions of their bodies like stomachs and legs, or the details of their muscle tissue for the skinless variations, like the Colossal, Armoured, and Female Titans.

I don't mean that she's hot just that she kicks ass...Actually this whole female titan arc is kicking ass lately.

Oh yeah, have to agree with you on that. I love how it was shown in the anime, and I am definitely looking forward to the arcs that follow...

Finally replying! So glad to see I'm not the only fan of the series.
I love episodes like this that deviate slightly from the manga. Why? I feel that it fleshes the world out more when we see side stories that aren't crucial to the plot. I'd say the last half of the episode was filler, but I thought that it was interesting. I always thought it was weird that in the first episode...
I'm looking forward to see how the next episode plays out. I can just imagine how it will be animated, a smile comes across my face every time.
Oh, and for those who are up-to-date on the manga... Holy fuck, what an ending, right? Man, I cannot believe we have to wait another month to see what happens. I'm willing to bet Eren and Mikasa will go into one heck of a rage as a result...

The Survey Corps brought back the arm of a dead soldier to give to the guy's mom. I like how the episode established how important it is to get remains of the deceased because of their culture.

Eren will go full out ham on that titan.

Episode 24 came out at last! Man, I loved how they changed it from the manga and had the Survey Corp do so much more before Eren joined the fray.
Next week, Eden's rematch against the Female Titan!

After finally getting a chance to watch the show thoroughly and re-reading book 33, I can honestly say that I'm torn about how the episode went.
For starters, this and episode 24 spent a lot of time making the humans look like hopelessly weak dependents on Eren's powers. In the manga, it looks much more like a coordinated effort for them to capture Annie with a calm, collected Eren on their side, but in the show, the Survey Corp looks completely impotent, even with the cannons and the convenient spike net they have ready. Mikasa spends half of her time on screen just saying "Eren" and staring blankly, when in the manga, she is still actively pursuing Annie with the rest of the Corp, regretting how her recklessness caused Levi to suffer his injuries and be put out of commission until he heals, and stating that she will be the one to take down Annie. Even after Annie smacks Eren around and kicks him into the building, Mikasa is still hacking away at her before she even hits the flat land, not just waiting for orders.
Eren's transition into some kind of Super Titan was awesome, but it reeked of, "we have to make this season finale look better than the book." Was it a great visual and spectacular battle that demonstrated how desperate Annie needed to get away from the city? Yes. Did it make her appear believably drained by the time Mikasa kicked her off the wall, allowing Eren and the Survey Corp to capture her? Yes. Did it make Eren look like he was completely unstoppable for no reason? Yes, and that is not a plus. This is a story focusing on human characters trying to save themselves from extinction, and their beacon of hope is still learning how to use his gift for this purpose. The manga portrays him as still learning to harness his full power, and shows that even his determination isn't enough to guarantee victory in his body, but he and his friends have that power together. His efforts combined with the humans made them succeed, and the show spat on that by showing Eren as not needing the humans to get the job done.
Another thing that got me annoyed was how Levi was so quick to put on his gear and fight when even now in the manga, he is still recovering? He sprained his foot, he won't be hopping around that easily and readily.
My least favourite part was how they decided to end the show. The biggest cliffhanger they could've used was wasted for a 10 second end-of-credit thing. Seriously, if they'd ended it the exact same, suspenseful way they had in the manga, it would've been perfect.
Come on, doesn't that sound a little more interesting than a boardroom inquiry and watching Eren eat?

Well, the latest book of the series came out, and wow. It's been out for a few weeks now, but I'll keep the synopsis in the spoilers anyway for the non-readers.
In this chapter...
Thoughts? Opinions? Beliefs?
I can easily say that this has been one of my favourite chapters, and I definitely look forward to the next one. I'm surprised by Ymir's actions, but given how little we know about her, it frustrates me a lot that she decides to abandon the Survey Corps, despite all her moaning and complaining about wanting to be with Krista. The bits with Mikasa and Eren were pretty powerful, finally showing that these two have more between them then an instinctive bond to protect each other. Eren not ever transforming in this chapter was a huge shock for me given all that was before him, but I guess he was still too tired and hurt from his previous fight in Titan form. Of course, the last few pages exceeded my expectations, so that part was awesome, and finally showed why Eren is so important to the Human-Titan Spies.
In this chapter...
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
Eren and Mikasa, both still hurt, come face-to-face with the very Titan that killed Eren's mother. In a surprise twist, Haness, still feeling the need to atone for not saving their mother Karla, keeps the Titan at bay and vows to make this spot its grave. The Armoured Titan is still fighting off the onslaught of Titans by tossing them at the Survey Corps to keep them from getting to Eren. Everybody's dying at this point, with Eren and Mikasa too hurt to do anything to help the soldiers stop the Titans. In a tragic twist, Haness fails at exacting his revenge and is killed by the Titan.
Eren loses his cool and demeans himself for not being able to help and make a difference in the lives of those he cares about. Mikasa, believing this'll be her last chance to be completely honest with Eren, turns to him and reminds him of how much he's helped her since they were 9. She thanks him for everything he has done, right down to his wrapping the scarf around her neck. As she nears him for what looks like an attempt to kiss him, Eren heals completely and turns to face the Titan, saying that he will keep on protecting for the rest of their lives.
In a surprise move, Eren actually remains human and punches the Titan's approaching hand, with the Titan still coming in for the kill. The significance of this move is only captured by other Human-Titan spies, and in the next panel, the originally unorganized band of Titans turn on the Titan that killed Eren's mom and Haness, and rip it apart. We get a look at an approaching Armoured Titan, showing true fear for the first time in a while, and Eren shouting at the monster to go away and die. The Titans follow Eren's command and all pounce on the Armoured Titan, giving all the humans an opportunity to return to the walled cities, leaving behind the Armoured Titan, Colossal Titan, and in another twist, Ymir, who opted to help the spies fight off the surrounding Titans.

So I decided to give the anime at least a shot. I watched the first 14 episodes while working on my second screen, got to the point where Eren joins the Survey squads.
2 things;
1) The titans look fucking stupid. I hate their faces, and with that respect, Captain Levi is my favorite character so far.
2)Eren is insufferable when the anime starts out.

So, latest manga came out, and they finally revealed a huge plot aspect that only a blind person couldn't have figured out.
Did anyone else feel that this was the case right from the beginning, or did you only think about it when they first got to Ragako and saw houses destroyed, but no blood or bodies?
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
After figuring out that the number of Titans discovered is the same as the number of people missing from Connie's village, Ragako, along with a captured Titan bearing a strong resemblance to Connie's mother, with Connie having a portrait of her to prove this, the hypothesis that Titans were once humans finally comes to light for the cast.
