I recently came across a video game book and had no idea they were creating them. To me its like taking comic books futher or deeper, but i was wondering if any of you have purchased any books based on games and would like some information if it was anything short of great. If you havent got one, i would like to know what is your perspective on these books. That is all ha.

Stay away from the book version of Command and Conquer:Tiberium Wars!

It makes the otherwise quite dark story into G.I.Joe, with Nod being random evil terrorist group, almost no mention of Kane (FUCKING KANE, who ranked higher on the bald villain list than Lex Luthor!!!), laser guns from G. I. Joe and the GDI soldiers acting like douchebags.

Hell, some fan decided to write a fanfiction to CORRECT and REPLACE this horrendrous thing, and surprisingly, it is quite good (even darker than the source material, which is saying somehting)

But most of the time, as with video game adaptations of movies, book adaptations of movies these suck balls. Mostly. Exceptions justify the conclusion even more.

The Resident Evil novels were pretty good. I've read Doom back ni the day as with Mortal Kombat and those kinda ruined video game books for me. I've heard bad things about the Halo books, too

Spin offs. And Tie in to the games. For Example, Some of the characters of mass effect books are in the games themselves. But the storylines of books do have an impact on the games themselves.

Well, when it comes to video game books the only ones I can think of are the Halo books, and I haven't even read them/played the series.

I can't find a StarCraft novel around my place but was able to download the Dark Legacy trilogy and it was amazing. They are good books and revealed some characteristics of a few characters in-game:

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
Valerian Mensgk is a very honorable kind of guy, Mohandar doesn't care about non-dark protoss, Zeratul feels a bit emo

Also, the book reveals
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
Protoss do not eat so that means they don't poop. Where do new Protoss come from?

When they finished downloading I felt happy. Wow, I am such a nerd

Yeah, the only books that are at the top of my list right now is the Halo series. I don't know if this will be all of them, but I know their are 6 of them with an "anthology related" book. Don't hold me to this, because I know I have seen this in WalMart (it's pretty thick), but didn't bother to pick it up.

So far, I have finished...
Fall Of Reach
The Flood
First Strike
Contact: Harvest
The Cole Protocol

I got one more to read, and that's Ghost of Onyx.

This past Christmas, I received a Halo Encyclopedia that is pretty nice to read for a while. Great art and depictions.
