So being the Anniversary of Pokemon, Nintendo released Red, Blue and Yellow to the Virtual console today.

Nintendo also mentioned that any Pokemon caught in these versions can be transfered to the Pokemon bank app and then transfered to Pokemon Sun and Moon games.

I personally picked up Pokemon Yellow. Back in the day I originally went with Red, but with these virtual console versions, Yellow is the only version that has color to it.

I got Pokémon Blue with Squirtle as a starter.

I never played the first generation game(I started with Silver); and after playing every Generation, it is quite an adjustment to make going back to the 1st generation games.


I do ENJOY the music on this game btw.

Mime, Mick and I discussed the new pokemon in the IRC chat earlier, looks pretty solid from what we've seen.

Mick-Lucifer was particularly taken with the new fire starter, if I remember correctly.

I just hope this Fire starter is not Fire/Fighting on its final evolution. We already go three of those in a row.

I'm hoping their final evolutions are: Grass/Flying, Fire/Dark, Water/Fairy

Funny, I mentioned I'd like to see a starter version of Houndoom. Water/Fairy as a starter would be too cheap, IMO. Would make it way more valuable than the others.

Mime suggested Water/Ice and that'd be appropriate IMO.

The owl starter is Grass/Flying already.

Boxart mons are a lion for Sun, and bat for Moon.
The lion has a cool mane, and the bat looks cool all around.

Release date is Nov 18 for US, Japan, and Australia. 23rd, iirc for Europe.

Popplio is really cute and these are easily the best starters since Gen 4.

I think this'll be the first title I start with a fire type.

I fucking love Litten.

Actually Water/Ice would be good for Popplio too.

Although, I did like Fennekin, I guess I am one of the few that did. I didn't pick fire starters Torchic, Chimchar, nor Tepig, because I hated their final evolutions.


What do you guys think of the legendaries Solgaleo and Lunaala?

I like Solgaleo, but I am not crazy about the colors they gave him.

I like Lunaala and I am just hoping it is not a dragon type.

I like Torchic and Combusken but I agree that Blaziken is a wreck. I went with Tepig because it was the only Gen 5 starter that I didn't think was trash. Chimchar line is pretty good.

The Sun legendary is really cool but the Moon one looks ridiculous. Sun is going to outsell Moon by a landslide based on box art alone. Ridiculous looking legendaries are nothing new but most of the ugly ones aren't on the boxes.

I've been a fire starter chooser since Charmander to Chimchar. Up until Gen 5 was where I really "defected" and have been choosing the grass types. They've had solid designs imho with Snivy and Chespin and I've just been having a better time choosing something different. I think I'll go back to fire though. I like Litten's design. The Owl is pretty good too, but I feel the fire type is finally gonna get interesting again.

Solgaleo looks like either a Mega Entei or a SabreLeomon to me. Not impressed. Lunaala looks goofy i like the design, hoping it's not flying though (totally will be)

I was hoping for the Sun legendary to be more regal and for the Moon legendary to be more mystical(kind of like Cresselia), but Lunaala is so hard to distinguish when you look at the box art and look like a dream catcher.

Poplio might end up as Water/Fairy.
Litten looks like it'll be Fire/Dark. According to GameXplain, the forehead mark makes the alchemical symbol for phosporus. GameXplain also thought, Fire/Poison as a possibility.

Lunaala will probably be a Flying type, unless it's given levitate, but it has wings so...
And the only Dragon type bat was Noivern. Most likely its Dark, Psychic, Ghost or Fairy.

Would Solgaleo be Fire type? Seems likely.
Here's hoping for something interesting, like Fire/Electric.
What other types could represent the Sun?
Dragon seems unlikely as it's a cat, but you never know. Maybe Psychic, Ghost or Fairy?

Apparently, there was a leak discovered while exploring the Japanese Pokemon website that reveals the final types as Grass/Flying, Water/Fighting (FIGHTING RETURNS AS A STARTER TYPE, LET RAGE COMMENCE) and Fire/Ground. I only saw this based on this guy's video, but it'd be interesting if that was an unintentional reveal of what the starters would become. Usually I begin my games with Water, but I'll definitely starting with Fire this gen because of the kitty starter. :-3

The neck frill, clown nose & playful nature made us think clown themed Fairy, but Strongman still fits the circus theme. If Rowlet gets a tophat to match the bowtie, it would be moreso.

People in GameXplain's comments are pointing out that Ground came before Fire, assuming Rowlet would change from Grass/Flying to Grass/Ground. While the type change seems odd, some owls dig burrows... but they can still fly...

I don't mind if the Fighting type is on the starters, as long as is not with the Fire type.

I can see Popplio turning into Water/Fighting.

It is, just poking fun at the fact that if these type reveals are true, then as of Gen 3, at least one starter has become part Fighting (mostly the Fire types). To be honest, I'm sick of seeing Fighting in the general starter pool at this point, same with Dragons and Psychics in most legendary cores.

It'd be a first. Grass is the only starter type where two have been dual type in their first stage; having it become a new dual-typing would be so cool!

Yay, more Psychics! I love how every generation except Generation 6 had Legendary Psychics (which they made up for by bringing back Mewtwo)! So fresh, so exciting! *

Seriously, why keep ignoring the other 15 types by always using Dragons, Flyers, or Psychics as legendaries?
And I hate this trend of re-naming abilities to make them species-specific (Huge/Pure Power, Mold Breaker/Turboblaze/Teravolt) without even giving more to them to at least merit the name-change. Better than Pressure, but a lot of things are better than that ability.
Also, anybody else find it funny that the Sun Pokemon is weak against Fire and the Moon Pokemon is weak against Dark? It's stuff like this that makes me think more tailored abilities could fix this kind of weird stuff. Why not give Solgaleo a suped-up Flash Fire that makes it immune to Fire and boosts Fire attacks and its STAB moves? Why not do something similar for Lunaala as well so that it won't die to Dark, and also boost its STABs and Dark moves? It didn't take me much time to think about that, I mean, the XYZ Trio have specific abilities for boosting/weakening attacks they use/used against them, it's not like it's impossible to make something like that a reality, is it?
