So Tin you're from the Southeast too? I'm from South Carolina. All I know of my origin is my dads side (English) and my momes side (Welsh).

Interesting website, but it lists Sparks as English, which is incorrect. Also, the coat of arms it displays is not the same as the one I've seen on other sites.
It is Welsh though, because I asked a Welsh fellow on another message board and he says its Welsh. He says there are quite a few Sparkses in the Cardiff area. Maybe you could ask your mother if she has heard the name?

Yeah, well, I'm from Texas. Some consider it south-east, some consider it South central, some consider it Southwest.
I researched the Sparkses all the way back to Britain. My first ancestor immigrated to the U.S.(Maryland) back in the 1600's, he was William Sparks, it said he was born in Hampshire, England however. His mother's maiden name was Davies, an obviously Welsh surname.
I couldn't find records further back then that. So maybe they were immigrants to England from Wales? Because at that time Wales was already in a full union with England, ever since 1536.

I was looking in my room and I remembered I have these little wooden circles from Wales from the Welsh Mountain Zoo. One has a mountain lion, another giraffes, and the tinest one the Welsh Dragon. And it says Colwyn Bay on the biggest one. I also have this wooden spoon hanging that says Anglesey, N. Wales with a LONG word on it...get ready: LLANFAIRPWLLGWYNGYLLGOGCRYCHWRNDROBWLLLLANTYSILIOGOGOGOGCH

AWESOME. LOL, yeah, Welsh does have quite a few ridiculously long names and words.
And this wooden spoon you speak of is called a Love Spoon, they are a Welsh tradition. All sorts of patterns are carved into them, and its a tradition for men to make them for women they are courting.

I noticed there are some similarities between Welsh and Spanish.
In Welsh the word for church is eiglys(pronounced ee-glus), and the word for church in Spanish is iglesia(ee-gleesia). Also, life in Welsh is vida(veeda), and in Spanish its vita(veeta). Fish in Welsh is pascyd(pascud) and in Spanish it is pescado(pes-kahdo).
Weird, huh?
