I doubt the opponents, aside archenemies, would know the names of your moves in general very well. If they did, revealing the upcoming move could be perceived as "the last chance to leave alive" as if the attacker were feeling remorse.
Another theory is that the moves wouldn't work without saying their name aloud, similar to how wizard Harry Potter has to say out his spell in order to cast it properly.

*Sighs* Youtube doesn't have the clip (Or I'm not searching hard enough) for General Custer's "We are not going to attack!" line.

I hate when characters do that and prefer, when people stay silent in fighting games. I can tolerate that in Street Fighter and other japanese games, but I much more prefer MK approach, when characters say things only sometimes.

Occasionally would work for me, but any game with call outs has the. Every time.

I always thought it was retarded, even as a little kid.
I also always thought it was totally awesome and cool.

Think about it this way; lets say you were in a fist fight with someone for whatever reason. You notice that this person yells out "uppercut!" and successfully does it to you, and yells "hip toss!" and he tosses you. I think its kind of a way to rub your face in it. I don't know, I just think that idea is pretty neat :p
