First off if your hear to start a war leave and don;t say get a xbox because I would if I didn't have so much money in games. So only give me suggestion of how I can fix my POS.

Hi there as you all know Ps2 has a problem with disk read errors. Well I always had this problem with like only 3 of 30 dvds I played and all my games worked. Well yesterday I was playing HSG Fore and I put it in and it wouldn;t read it. This problems been starting to get worse over the period of time. So I tried a few times then put a few other games in. Not a damn thing. So I kept trying HSGF and it finally read it and started it took awhile but finally read it. Well it does everytime and IDK what to do.

How can I fix it and how much will it cost?

Does it need to be cleaned?

Does anyone have the email to sony?

What Should I do and don't say get a Xbox?

Please help me!!!!

Well from the description of the problem, it sounds as if the lens needs to be cleaned - or the inside of the PS2. BUT if it's not that, I had a problem (which the couldnt answer, and turned out to be the second controller) and here is the email Sony sent me:
(Only difference is that the adress to send the console is in Canada, yours obviously would be different)

Don't worry bub, its not a big problem. Mine did the samething it more than likely needs to be cleaned.

DO NOT take it to a place for them to clean it. Its a waste of money. Do it yourself. I am very bad with machines and I took mine apart and cleaned it, its not hard. Here's how you do it:

Simply unscrew the outter screws, some will be short some will be long.

DO NOT unscrew the smaller box which is the CPU. I did this by accident and I freaked out, I thought I'd never get it back together.

Once you get it open you'll pull the big outter shell off, becarful though if you have a new version the power and eject buttons are connected to the outter shell. Mine is the old version and is not connected.

Once the outter shell it off you may or may not have a couple more small screws, then slide off the metal pan covering the lazer lens

Clean the lazer lens with a cuetip and maybe some rubbing alcohal and put everything back together.

If you pay to have someone do that you're either rich or very stupid.

aha, disc error.
i hated it.
It never happened to me, but on my older ps2, it occurred only on a specific game.
and one of my favourites, marvel vs capcom 2.
I just couldn't get it to run, i used to wait for over 10 minutes just trying to run the game at a point.
Sometimes i used to give up, but i fixed the problem, without cleaning...this disc error may not be the common disc-error everyone gets, but the way i did it was, that my ps2 was always set horizontally on the floor, everytime, now i keep it vertically, and i prefer this because it looks nice, also, i have never received a disc-error message since then.
I slapped myself for waiting so long with the ps2 horizontally for mvc2.
Anyways, i don't seem to have any problems with disc-errors regarding new consoles, or old controllers, or new controllers including wireless, and macros, online adapter, usb headset, multi-tap,and memory cards, but i do have a corrupted file with a ?file size, a question mark file size, and i can't delete it.
it's weird. anyone knows how to rid such creations?

If your ps2's disc-error stops if you switch your ps2 setup from horizontal to vertical or vice-versa, i'll be real happy to hear that i wasn't the only one, and i bet you will be happy too. It's better than spending time wasted repairing the thing. so give it a try, and let me know.

I bought my PS2 off of a friend 'cause he said it was broken (ha ha! In your face, devilkiller!), and, sure enough, it had disc read error on everything from old games to new games. Well, I was too cheap to have a professional do anything to it, and since the warrant was expired, I cleaned it myself. Clean off the lens, dust out all the dust and cobwebs, make sure everything's fit properly, put it back together (took about 10 minutes) and, viola!, it ran as smooth as silk and I haven't had a problem since. So... I got a working PS2 for under $50 (including FFX in the process), and it works just as well as the newest kind you can find. Yep. Just clean the sucker. Fatality.
