Ok boyos, incoming. I thought the movie was....fantastic. It's very heavily a comic book movie, but with a villain I think most people can get. The movie moves - a lot- looking back on the earlier scenes seems almost like a different movie, so if you prefer a movie to move from A to B to C exactly as intended, this isn't really the movie.

Evans does a wonderful job portraying Cap, in particular Cap's struggle with modern-day amoral government actions as well as Cap's friendly sense of humor.

Johansson shines in this- bar none her best performance in the Marvel films.

Anthony Mackie, while he doesn't quite feel like Falcon to me, still performs wonderfully and is a likable character none-the-less.

The Batroc fight is great; probably the closest you'd get to it being like the comics without defying physics.

The plot is very much a whodunnit in the beginning and really keeps you guessing. When the heroes find out what's going on, so do you. There's no focusing on the villains' point of view until you really figure out who the villains are. I can understand how some people might not like this, but I do.

There's plenty of action, but it's a lot more serious than I think we've come to expect from Marvel; in fact, the movie is considerably dark at times (for PG-13) and deals with some rather deep issues; there's actually one rather heartbreaking moment that happens pretty early in the movie. As for the fighting itself, the battles in this movie do not feel like the battles in the Avengers, and that's good.

Negatives? I'm gonna have to say Crossbones. Other than the name Brock Grumlow, he just isn't Crossbones. He seems more along the lines of the secondary antagonists in the Indiana Jones movies. However,
Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
he doesn't die, so that leaves the door open for him becoming more like his comic roots.

All in all, I think this is one of the better Marvel Films, and I can say without any doubt in my mind the best sequel. Some people are saying it's better than the Avengers, but I wouldn't go that far. I would say that if you're a Cap fan, it will be your #2 Marvelverse movie, if you're not then #3.

NOW ONTO DA SPOILAS! If for some reason you like those....

The main villain is

Alexander Pierce is actually...

Alexander Pierce. No secret identity, just a high ranking government official who believes in Hydra's ideas of enforced order.

Featuring a special appearance by

Arnim Zola! It is revealed that Zola, who is now more similar to his comic counterpart, developed a program which- in a sense- manipulates world channels to bring about situations in which Hydra can assert itself through world governments. Very Metal Gear Solid.

And what about that mid-credit scene where we see

Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, locked up by Hydra.

As far as spoilers go, it's not exactly going to radically alter anyone's perceptions. If you're concerned about that sort of thing, you won't want to venture too deep, though.

I don't know about may have missed, but useful for the uninitiated.

Meanwhile; over in the Avengers: Age of Ultron thread -- the Captain has new clothes.

My favorite parts of Marvel movies are when during the post credits-scenes you can hear people whispering to their friends "Who is that?"

Pretty much this. I've heard them every time.

Looking forward to see this movie in comfy lounge chairs that this one theater placed in. They just need to install a massage function and I'll be set.

I loved this movie. What I especially enjoy is that, despite having read the comics, the films still pull surprises. Things I expect to happen either don't or they do happen but in new ways.

- OFFICIAL: "Captain America 3" to Challenge "Man of Steel 2" on May 6, 2016

Interesting sequel development. Gotta think someone (coughWARNERcough) will choke and shift the date before May 6th. With so many damned superhero movies, it's almost a wonder this hasn't been an issue before. I guess it took the second horse in the race to actually get running -- and even then, there's got to be a bit of the House of Assholes at play here. Of course, the way the Superman sequel is bloating by the day, they might actually need to push things back. Lucky them.

It's almost redundant to say Winter Soldier was amazing, but what really has me excited is...

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
The acknowledgment of Dr. Strange. I had a year subscription to Marvel's online archives and 90% of what I read was Dr. Strange. Just don't cast Johnny Depp. Please. I beg of you.

I finally got around to seeing the movie earlier this week. Definitely amazing. I think it might be Marvel's best movie yet. I know we all say this with each new movie in their cinematic universe, but I really believe it was better than the Avengers. I think the size and scope of the movie actually seemed bigger. With The Avengers, the setting seemed to be localized to one area, while with the Avengers, it seemed to shift around a bit and they didn't really re-use a lot of the same areas like the Avengers seemed too. The plot and character development where also really well done. The movie felt like an old spy thriller, rather than comic book movie.

I also thought they did a great job setting up The Avengers 2 with the post scenes credits.

I can't help but get the sneaking suspension that it might carry over to Captain America 3 as well and not just Avengers 2.

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
I think we'll see Von Strucker in CA3 use Loki's scepter to try and bring back the Red Skull. With both Shield and Hydra in disarray after WS, and with Nick Furry going to europe to hunt hydra sleeper cells. I think Bucky will regain his memory and help captain finish Red Skull once and for all in CA3.

Fun speculative article about the long term film future of Cap's arch-nemesis. A couple of quotes there from [Hugo] Weaving I don't remember coming across.

- ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Almost Had Another Avenger Cameo

There was, however, one Avenger cameo that didn’t make the final cut.

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
On the Blu-ray for “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” it’s mentioned that one of the deleted scenes originally featured Hawkeye. It was later rewritten without Clint Barton and then dropped from the film altogether.

According to the director, when Steve Rogers became a fugitive from S.H.I.E.L.D., the Hydra shell organization sent Hawkeye after Cap, but not everything was how it would seem.

“There was an awesome sequence where [Cap and Hawkeye] confronted each other in a ravine on the outskirts of D.C., and Hawkeye was shooting a series of arrows closing in on Cap.... And then Cap took him down,” Russo said. “[Cap] realized for the first time that Hawkeye was trying to trick S.H.I.E.L.D.... [Hawkeye] whispered something into Cap’s ear that Cap had a tracker on his suit and to punch Hawkeye to make it look real, because there was a Quinjet hovering above where they were watching the feedback back at S.H.I.E.L.D.”

It wasn't filmed, so in terms of spoilers... You have to be avoiding hypotheticals, but there you go. If you don't wanna know who was almost in the mix, you don't have to. Pretty interesting, but fine without it, I'm sure.

- ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ is the 8-bit game we all want [YouTube]

As fun as it is to watch 8-Bit Cinema’s reimagining of Captain America: The Winter Soldier as a classic side-scrolling action game, it’s probably for the best that it’s not really. Because, seriously, if there were an actual old-school adventure-spy game like this, in which you could play as Captain America, Black Widow, Nick Fury or the Falcon, we’d never get anything else done. Hydra knows I fed enough quarters into Elevator Action when I was a kid...

This is glorious!
